I have a few of those--NEAT VACUUMS!!!!Beleive these are the main competitor to Sanitaires.Like the metal bodies and fans on the Koblentz machines.I also like the chromed motor hoods!A CLASSY professional vacuum! The three I have-one has a dump bag, another the dump dust cup-and the last one I have uses F&G paper bags.

They are great vacuums

I don't think they make the chrome upright anymore they are painted gray .

They even call for Eureka F&G bags on the web site compete with Sanitaire and use their bags at least they aren't using HOOVER bags 😜

I figured you wouldn't mind. It is gorgeous, I've always found the ultimate G to be the most blasé machine they've produced. But plating it in gold really adds a new dimension to it haha, now if they would only make one out of platinum lol.

The brush roll photos that you posted are Hoover 2 row brush roll 48414081. Your vacuum is a Hoover PowerMax canister, judging from the color scheme of the power nozzle you posted I'm guessing you have a Hoover PowerMax Supreme S3611 canister vac as I'm seeing a dark green. But if it's navy blue it may be a Hoover PowerMax S3603-040. That brush roll is a 12" width and is made to fit Hoover
Futura, PowerMax, & Turbo Power 5000 & 6000 canister vacuums. In addition it is also the brushroll for 12" Hoover Elite, Runabout, **Convertible** , **Decade**, Futura, Encore, Preferred, Soft & Light, Legacy, Dimension, & Turbo Power 1500, 2000, 2200, 4000 and a few other units of these plastic unit style machines. Hoover did have a few Elite like machines with the name Decade and Convertible which is why I've included those model lines. Otherwise older Convertibles with middle belt and Decade 80/ 800 machines are a completely different brush roll.

The brush roll you have is the best that Hoover put on those canister vacs. It was revised in early 2000's with 3 indentations of no bristle in the agitator to fit the new revised base plate with plastic nozzle plate guards rather than metal plate guards. I have a photo below of the newer brush roll that was available on the last model Hoover PowerMax Deluxe canister S3606 or Hoover Turbo Power 5000 canister S3612 when they ended production of that series somewhere around 2005.

Durango 159

Yes it's a s3611, the machine is basically new but I wanted to have a back up brush so I'd be more inclined to use it. I don't like the replacement with the three indentations, I don't like the look of all the lines it leaves. I prefer the cleaner look that the single line leaves on the carpeting. I know CWP has a wood variant with just the single notch. But I think Dan has one in the pic that is exactly for my machine.

Thanks for your help though, I appreciate it.

I was thinking...

.
various models all seem to be based on the same basic platform.
Self Propelled, Dimension Supreme, Dirt Finder, Power Drive..maybe the Breath Easy. Yes they are all different in some way but at the same time similar no?

It's a great color..

There is also a blue color Hoover has, that got me to buy the same model Hoover vacuum as the red I already had. I absolutely would not have bought it otherwise, as I have too many vacs already, and the price was good but not great. But that blue is nearly as glorious as the red.

Many customers respond favorably to color . . .

. . . and such is the case with vacuums over the years. I can't remember them all, but there were times when Hoover introduced a new model to excite buyers, the company brought them out in blue. Consider: models 62 and 63, models 70 and 719, 70th anniversary Concept One model U3101, 100th anniversary 2008 Windtunnel self-propelled upright (still out there today). With red versus blue, consider the flashy red model 29 (one of my favorites)paired up with the models 62 and 63. Guys out there can probably recall other similar red/blue instances.

Dan,

Long ago in the 70s, I had my Kirby Classic. It was my daily driver and served me well. But, when Kirby came out with the Tradition, that striking blue was gorgeous, and I had to have it. So, I traded in the Classic for that Tradition and got a good deal. I love my Kirby Legend II. Why? That red color is great on that style of Kirby. I was hoping that the Avalir would be brought out in a nice blue or red--colors Kirby hasn't seen in quite a while. I can probably accept that black is a throwback for the 100th anniversary. The Hoovers that came out of North Canton were rock stars in the world of color.

Hoover- the rock stars of color

I must concur with you on that one because I'm reminded of the Convertible my mother got for a wedding present in 1957. Its was some sort of 'Lilac' purple. Dan, I think you have one of these. Later on she had an avocado green convertible with a real psychedelic looking bag. Hoover made some groooovy outer bags for their machines in the 1970's. The ones with the bright colors and patterns looked like Pucci fabric or a Peter Max painting.

Hoover color . . .

. . . In 1969, I was in the market for a new Hoover Convertible, so I purchased a Model 1070 (produced from '69 to '71). (There's a back story to this, but too long for now. I'll post it later on, maybe in a new thread.) Anyway, the combo colors of marine blue and seal greige caught my attention. I liked this vacuum and used it almost every day. During this same time period, the Hoover model 719 was being produced. One day in the department store, I spied this vacuum. It's blue coloration of delft blue and seal griege drew me in like a magnet, and I just had to have it. Never mind I already had the Hoover 1070. I bought it on the spot, took it home, and used it, alternating with the 1070. I was then in my early stages of fascination with Hoover's styles and colors (not to mention their ability to suck the dirt out of my carpets).

Dan,

Thanks for the compliment. I've owned a number of Hoover vacs over the years, but I've never worked for Hoover. I have a number of Kirbys in my collection. I bought my first Kirby in 1972, but before that, even as a kid, I had a fascination with Hoover vacuums--how they looked, how they sounded, what colors popped out at me. I wanted my parents to buy me one, but we were limited on funds and could not. In fact, my father thought it was not normal for a boy to want a vacuum.

Now, the back story on the 1070. In the mid 60s, when I was a freshman in college, I had saved up enough money from my job to buy my own Hoover. I wasn't in to model numbers at the time, I just liked how it looked. I think it was a model 35--gold and white. I used that vacuum as often as I could. Unfortunately, a couple of years later, we lost our home in a fire, and the Hoover and everything else went with it.

As we were rebuilding and refurnishing, I knew we just had to have another Hoover. So, I had enough money and I went and bought a Hoover model 1070. I liked its looks, and it was overall a better vac than the one we lost. (Refer to my previous post about the Hoover model 719.)

Anyway, as time went on, I either traded or sold the Hoover 1070 (can't remember which). Just recently, I saw on ebay a Hoover model 1070 for sale. It was really clean and in great condition. I skipped the bidding process and went straight to the "buy now" price of $75 plus shipping. Probably collectors out there would condemn me for paying such a price, but I had to grab it while I could for sentimental reasons.

That vac is sitting here right now. You see, as I look at it, memories of that time in my life come back to me--my contentment with that vac when new, our new home, our family life after having to start over, my college graduation and starting my job as a teacher. They say money can't buy health, but there are times when my can buy memories. This was one of those times.

Joe

Hoover 4103

pr-21's profile picture
Hi Dan,

Just wondering if the Hoover 4103 has the bag change that you slide the bag into a groove? I had one that color but not sure if it was the same. I really liked the way it slid down into the groove and often wondered why Hoover changed that to pushing the cardboard collar over the bag tube? I still think to this day, that it is harder to push over the collar, than to slide it into the groove, due to the thinner collar on their bags.

Sincerely,

PR-21
Bud Mattingly

Thanks for the info Dan, when I saw it, I thought about the fill tube difference.

The Eureka is a pic of my Eureka 260. I got it by asking a vac shop online if they had one that was traded in. They checked there basement and had one. It needed a lot of tlc, but in the end was worth it.

My NOS hoover brush roll to fit my powermax 3611 canister. It's my second transaction with Dan where Ive just used PayPal to send him money and with in two days I have my item. My first was a NOS. HPO green electrolux brush. ive never met/ spoken with Dan but he certainly has my trust and respect when I can send him money and know that Hes not going to take it and run. It's just really nice knowing there are still honorable good people out there.

Dan Please, two things.

#1 Please don't use those hearts around Hoover. The way you are posting them does not show up properly in some browsers, some users are seeing something very different. So please no more posting the word Hoover (or any other word for that matter) in any way but normally.

#2 For those of us who use the Chrome browser (like me) you can right click over any picture posted and select "Search Google for this image". Enough said about that.

Dan your threads are great fun, so please let's keep them way.

I'm a car detailer as well and only use high quality products! NOTHING from the automotive isle at WalMart.....My choice is American Detail Supply CO. Not sure if they are everywhere in the US, but I have one about 45 minutes from me and their products are fantastic! Especially the different interior/exterior rubber and vinyl dressings. Oh! And the speed wax is AMAZING! I could go on and on about automotive detailing.....haha! I worked for a year and a half at a Ford Lincoln dealership and was a porter/detailer and was voted the best detailer they had! That job ended back in August do to some things within the company I didn't like, now I'm working part time for a lawn care service and going to school three days a week to become an automotive technician! SO yeah....Vacuum Cleaner are not my only Hobby. They both sort of do together.

I have never heard of them although I haven't looked for any other products for automotive care since I discovered Griots Garage .

They also have a product called speed shine and a product called wax as you dry I use them almost daily to make my Mercedes shine better than any of my friends Benz's . Quick and easy to use for a touch up in between appointments .

I also use their products on my vacuums , and throughout my home to shine up everything after my housekeeper is done .

Good luck in school I'm sure you'll be a great technician 😁

Hey dan

I haven't posted on here for time but after getting totally consumed in your thread I thought it's about I said something
WOW 👍👍👍😀😀😀
What an amazing collection of cleaners and to have the majority of them brand new is quite an achievement. I would be lyeing if I said I wasn't just a tad envious
I love American vacuums. They always seem to be more exciting than the ones here in the UK
I'd give my right arm and probably leg as well to own a concept or dimension
I do have 2 windtunnels one is from New Zealand and the other is American and they do get used. Every American vacuum I have ever used always seems to perform faultlessly. With 6 cats and a dog that shed constantly there are not many machines that can handle the hair but the American ones never fail. I'm back to using my G5 daily again as the little monsters are losing so much hair.
If you fancy letting any of your vacuums come to live in the UK if be more than happy to offer them a home. I spend a lot of time vacuuming as I'm home all day clearing up after the monsters lol 😂😂 also saves me getting bored of being home all day ( I have M.S and am not as mobile as I used to be).
Just wanted to say as well about the people making negative comments if your proud of what you have and have accomplished in your life then tell the world. I'm really pleased you can fulfil your dreams and hobbies. I don't have much anymore but I'm proud of what I have and despite being envious of your collection lol. I am not jealous of what you have in your life. Keep enjoying it and spending you can't take it with you when you go
👍👍😀😀😸😸😺😺

You really touched me and I appreciate you chiming in . Yes many on this site hate me for my being able to own every vacuum I have ever dreamed of but they don't bother me one bit . They have something deep within them that makes them angry and unhappy , I can only pray they find happiness and they too one day can have all the vacuums they ever dream of .

I am always very PROUD of my accomplishlments and know many appreciate my thread I have worked very hard for everything and anyone can do it you just have to live a positive life and be kind to others and work hard . I have amazing and loving friends who support me as I support them in all their endeavors .

We only get one life on this earth and I live my life being happy everyday I never get jealous nor I am not offended by those who have more than I do , I am very happy for them and praise their success and hope that one day I may be as successful as they are .

There might be an American vacuum in my collection that would love to relocate to your home I am going through my collection to see which I will keep and which I will let go . Keep using those American Hoovers and that KIRBY nothing beats a KIRBY they are my true love .

VERY NICE Compact C8-like the turbonozzle. With the complete pack-now you need the salesman to demo it!I like the older Compacts over the newer design TriStars. Was an electric powernozzle available for this machine?Like the METAL floor shoe on the turbonozzle with the machine.Much better than the plastic shoes.

I would love to have a demo of this machine I'm sure it was awesome .

This machine does not have a PN outlet I guess it was on newer models and yes the metal sole plate on the turbo brush is nice but there are no wheels I am not sure how that would work as I will never use this its a NIB keeper 😝

I too love these older designs over the new ones but I do also love the new style as you know I love every thing that's new .

Hey dan

Hope your well Just read your message
Thank you I was worried I might offend you by chiming in
My thinking is the same as yours. We do only get one life on this earth and we should enjoy each day we are here instead of wasting time bitching about others. I've always said if people were to put as much time, energy, and effort in to their own lives as they do bitching about others they would probably be better off.
( Please note vacuum landers this is not anything aimed at anyone here it's something I have thought all my life so please don't get offended )
It would be fantastic if one of your machines wanted to relocate to my house. When I went to New York years ago I wanted to buy so many vacuums and bring them home but it just wasn't practical.
I went to a vacuum repair shop while I was there and he had quite a few rebuilt machines. I wanted to get a dimension a concept and a commercial with a dust cup. I love the dust cup models, the Hoover power plus we had over here with the dust cup is rare as hens teeth lol I've got more chance of shitting in the queens handbag than I have of picking up a dust cup power plus 😂😂
The hotel we stayed at had the red commercial elites, so one morning I asked the cleaning lady if I could vacuum our room and she said yes omg I was so excited I was like a small child with a new toy 😂😂

The same goes for you. If there is a UK vacuum that you like, if I can get my hands on one I could send it over for you. Unfortunately my own collection is not as large as it used to be.
I'm not sure if my email address shows in my profile if it doesn't let me know and I'll give it to you

Really looking forward to more pics of your vacuums on this amazing thread

😀😀👍👍🎉🎉💎💎

Dan-Interesting that the Compact machine you have doesn't have a powernozzle jack.Would think by mid 70's Compacts would have the powernozzle connector if you wanted to go to a powernozzle.Of the collections I have seen here-yours has to be the largest.-or at least of machines you have shown.Good that you can get them new.I haven't scrounged around here-and in this small town difficult to do in finding NIB older machines.Dealers come and go here.Only ones that have stayed here for any length of time has been Rainbow and Areus-'Lux.If you want other brands in my area-the new Kirby Avalir I am supposed to get at any time-will come from Raleigh.

Look, I know you & I have our issues, & we just don't get along, never have liked each other. Never will, we have our reasons for it, & that's fine.

However, here's what to do about all those haters & frenemies you have out there: Tell them to stuff it! Don't let them hate on you & bring you down. Especially those that have never met or talked to you in person, & judge you for having a opinion online & saying how you really feel. Then, pull your head up a little bit higher than it was before, go forward & move on, & ignore the judgmental scum & think to yourself "I am so much better than them!"

Ya know what, ever since joining the collecting community a few years ago, one thing is for certain: It never ceases to amaze me how many snotty, judgmental, backstabbing, prissy gay drama queens there are in the collecting world! Truly DISGUSTING if you ask me! It sickens me to no end how much we judge others for being online & having an opinion & standing by it....You should be able to say how you feel & still be able to get some respect & keep some decent friends! Like, hey, last time I checked, this is NOT a communist state! And just remember one little thing....if you're religious, when you die, it's YOU that has to answer to God when you meet your maker on the other side for every good & bad thing you did in this life. Don't let them live your life for you & lead life on your own terms. Your REAL FRIENDS will stand by you to the end. You can never please anyone, no matter how hard you try, all you can do is move forward every day & be the best person you know how to be. I learned all this stuff the hard way years ago, & ya know what? I'm glad I learned not to let it affect me so much today. Lord knows I don't want these people bringing me down. If I have only 1 shot at life, then I am living my life the way I want to, so that I can look at myself in the mirror & be happy with myself & what I see staring back at me.

And for all my enemies, frenemies & haters here on Vacuumland that see this post & don't like it: Go yourself!

Rob

Thanx for that but one thing NOBODY can or ever will bring me down instead I find it rather hilarious yet sad and understand how people work .

I have a wonderful group of friends who I love dearly and the feeling is mutual I have been blessed many times over and appreciate my life and my friends .

This is the first time this has happened to me And it is because those who have never met me have no idea who I am . I thought this site was to share our passion of collecting yet there are those who say I am a "bragger" because I am sharing my extensive collection with fellow collectors.

I feel bad for people who must hate someone for unknown reasons but know there are issues deep down that I pray they find happiness and replace hate with love .

Thanks for the compliments I have been very lucky to have so many brand new vacuums plus a lot of them being vintage NIB vacuums .

Hope you get your KIRBY soon I am getting both of mine on the 19th my guy ordered extra Sentria II's because he sells a lot to his female customers they see that bag and all comment that it looks like a designer pocketbook Gucci or Coach is what many say it reminds them of .

He's disappointed in the Avalir colors says his female customers won't like it because it's a masculine color (black) .

Dan: I am all for the Black-Red colors on the new Kirby. One Kirby salesman commented to me it was the MAN of the house that "bought" the Kirby.Women often don't like having to change the modes so they ask "hubby" to do it.The salesman mentined that men liked the modes the Kirby could be used for-esp the Handi Butlers and the Turbo sanders. In the earlier Kirbys--the women liked the vibrator!!I am still waiting for my Kirby Avalir. The man said it was going to be sometime this week.Maybe his shipment got delayed.

My great Uncle Bill x Kirby sales man now owner of a prestigious Pennsylvania beauty salon
had these rebuilt in 1994 and they sat in his salon storage room because I turned them on to Orecks
they prefer them because they are light and they can vacuum the granite floors easier than a Kirby .

This is a Kirby Classic Omega such a great Kirby of yesteryear .

Dan very nice Kirby Classic Omega. The ones I have encountered are dirty, bags ripped and stinky, bearings, fans shot, and so on.Good the Sentria 2 was liked by the women-I liked the colors, too. The only Kirby color I didn't like was the D80 color. The D80 is an excellent Kirby-just don't like its puke green color. The Kirby Tradition was beautiful-its nice, deep,Cobalt blue.

NICE Eureka-This looks so much like the Sanitiares-but prettier. The usual Sanitaires are built for business to be heavily used-and the users don't really care how they look.-And most of their "users" aren't the owners of the machines. They are owned by the cleaning company or contractor. The one shown is just to nice to be used by a cleaning company! They will beat it up!What type of paper bag does this model use?

It's built to the exact same quality of a Sanitaire but I wouldn't use it commercially .
It takes an F&G Bag the ST style wasn't availble when this machine was sold although it
could be converted .

Dan i want to turn things around a bit and ask you what is *not* in your collection and why.
For instance, i have around 150 vacs but only one is an Electrolux canister.
I do not have any vac pre 1960's. I have only one pre G-series Kirby.
I do not have any hand vacs or shop vacs.

That said i have a number of metal Royal uprights a common vacuum which i don't recall seeing in your collection.
You have a load of Hoovers but it seems none of some common models.

What did you once have but moved on from (besides Miele and Sebo?)
And what vacuum do you regret most not snapping up when you had the chance?

I'm gonna guess your preference for new vacuums probably plays a big role in there being fewer really old models, but i'msure there is more to the tale..

I have many Royal vacuums including the Powercast and the other metal royals heck they are KIRBY cousins so you know I'd own them 😁 I reposted a few of my Royals for you .

No regrets because I am blessed with being able to own all vacuums I could dream of the only machines I want are all brand new machines not even made or thought of yet .

I am disappointed with Miele and Sebo I may try a Felix just not in any rush to get one yet .

Dan,

.
what is your take on the Powercast? I realized i wanted one when they were being closed out but i was just too late too the party to get a new one.
I have yet to come across a used one outside of the rare Ebay appearance, and even there i have yet to see a two motor model which is what i would prefer.

Your commercial/Everlast machines are gloriously factory fresh looking.
As incredibly long lasting and hard working as these machines are they often appear shabby for it. Not yours! But then again, i'm not surprised..
And kuddos for breaking with the pack and embracing Dirt Devil.
That doesn't mean i am a fan of the brand, i do have a Cruiser model though, but rather i appreciate the pioneering spirit.

Finally, thx again for spending the time taking and uploading the pics and answering questions. I have noticed some don't respond to my questions on their threads for whatever reason, but you always do, i appreciate it. I feel i have under-shared my collection but time is tight with a 3 and 5 year old.
Adios for now..

It's heavy for the normal person but not for me an xlinebacker 💪

I hear Ya on the comments stuff there are many on this site that ignore questions I think that's wrong

I do not discriminate against other brands I appreciate all brands I even own those I don't like and NEVER bash other brands as "some" do . This is called "Vacuum Land " not one brand land !!!

I would love to see your collection once you get time I can tell you thank God for my iPhone 6 plus I can snap pictures quickly and post when I have time between appointments ect .

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
This is for my friend Rex 😝

It's a Dual Sanitronic 80 another vacuum from my Great Uncle that he had rebuilt then stored away at his Salon because I gave him Orecks to use instead .

This is a KIRBY factory refurb .

Dan:That Kirby D80 looks so much better than the ones I find.Yours is a green color well,I could like.Guess the others out there fade to the Puke Green colors. It is amazing the vacuums you run into for your collection-You have your OWN vacuum Museam!Neat how you can enjoy those machines right at home!I do have one Kirby D80 that came from the Filter Queen dealers trade in pile.It was in nice shape. The Filter Queen place is gone now-they folded.Too bad- got some machines from them and they let me sit in on one of their sales training sessions! Also bought a sales kit from them-has the FQ "slug",photo light, and dirtmeter.I have two Powercasts-bought them when the Royal dealer here was more active and these machines were available. They are heavy and perform well, but feel the bag is too small. This powerful vacuum fills that small bag quickly. And sometimes the Powercast trips the breaker when I start it.Needs a "soft Start" feature. The built in GFI breaker is most unusual.Royal was trying to make these machines appeal to commercial contractor cleaners. The effort failed becuase of the machines weight and it is fragile. Most common casulty of these is broken handles.A cleaning contactor in Greenville tried the Powercasts but went back to their Sanitaires becuase of lighter weight, easier, cheaper to repair.

Say that ...

they are only puke Green when faded and old this has been in the box since rebuilt by the KIRBY factory since 1994 so it stayed brand new and unfaded .

I love the Powercast Royals I think they are great machines that clean really well . I never fill vacuum bags I just don't have much dirt in my bags I guess that's because I always remove my shoes at the door and walk around in socks only .

Come to think about it I do have my own museum especially with all the brands I own and 90% at least are brand new but all are 100% mint condition .

Dan:Now I wished I had a D80 that was new or rebuilt.Guess would have to keep it in the case so it wouldn't get exposed to light and sunlight and cause fading.
For the Powercast-the cleaning company out here that used them breifly complained the bags filled quickly.I feel a Filtrete type bag should have been designed for the Powercast.I leave my shoes at the door-but it still amazing how mush dirt you still bring in-your clothes and body.Like a pet-such as a dog or cat you also shed body hair and skin flakes. You especially see this when you vacuum your favorate chair or bed with a vacuum equipped with the dirtmeter! The Powercast was one of the only few clean air uprights that could work well. For the most part, like the Royal metal direct air uprights and Kirbys better.Maybe if Royal equipped the Powercast to use the "B" bags that would be an improvement.Did like how you could connect the hose without disconnecting belts or removing the floor nozzle. The Powercast was one of the only clean air uprights that could really deep clean-hence the bag filling quickly. When using the Powercast-i feel like I am using a Certified Pile Lifter vacuum.Do you have one of those?Surprized you don't or is one on your "to get" list.Want one for myself. They are commercial machines-usually used by carpet cleaning services. They use it before damp cleaning a carpet-then again after the carpet has dried to refluff the nap and remove debris the carpet washer loosened.Pile lifter have two motors-one to trun the huge Drum like brushroll that reaches all the way to the carpet backing. Then it has a direct air motor to pick up the debris the brush stirs up.Impressive and beautiful machines.Present ones use a Royal direct air motor and an oversize "B" type bag.The brush is turned by a 1/3Hp 120V induction motor. In appearence the machine sort of looks like a polished chromed lawn mower.Someday I will get one of these.New,they cost about 2 grand. You order them from the Certified company.Online if you wish. You can also choose what type of brushroll you want. They offer a few choices depending on the carpet you are going to use it on.

The only place I get to fill my vacuum bags are at my Ocean Front condo that's because of the sand I remove my shoes there but walk on the beach and come into the place and sand is stuck to you everywhere . I rinse off at the rinse stations but sand is every where . At my house I just get dust and little bit of dirt .

I don't have nor want a pile lifter I have no need for that as my KIRBYS do that job and I don't have any deep down dirt to remove again because of my KIRBYS and other high end D2D vacuums I use .

I can see in commercial use the bags filling up because the Powercast is very powerful plus the center suction hose helps .

Powercast

I was really taken with the Powercast when it first came out. I bought my brother and sister in law a new TOL w/deluxe tools mind you for a house warming gift when they bought their house in 2004. They Hate it.

Caught them with a Bissell bagless one time when I was over. I actually chose the Powercast for them because of the readily available bags. For some reason I thought their's took the Type U Microlined.

I would like to get it back, maybe offer them something else, but don't want to be a gift taker-backer.

Kirbysthebest - if you don't think they like the Powercast, there's nothing wrong with asking them if they'd like to trade it for something else that they'd like better. It sounds like the Powercast isn't a good fit for them. It would actually be considerate of you to offer to replace it with something they like better.

Dan: Ever since I spotted a Pile Lifter at the Daycon Janitorial supply place in Wash DC in the early 70's I always wanted one.Later tried one that was brought into the vac place here for reapir.Kinda liked it!Yes,the Kirby and other machines deep clean-would like the Certified anyway!
Oreck handles-their full loop one sort of makes me think of the handle on a Stanley hand plane-easy to grip and push.On those planes-esp the Stanley largest "Jointer" plane you need the leverage that handle provides. And they were made of wood-BETTER than plastic!Back from my carpenter days.

Dan:It may be awhile before I can get one.Would like it,though. It would seem the Oreck handlegrip would be good for folks with CP or other problems.Guess thats why they are marketed to elderly customers.Have to pay for my new Kirby before I can get the Pilelifter. You can also get dirtmeters to show clients how much dirt is still in their carpets after their vacuum was used.Bet the least amount would show if the carpet was vacuumed with a Kirby!

My Kirby Avalir is still on wait-figure the bad weather here may delay its delivory. It has to come from the dealer in Raleigh,NC-about a 2 hr drive to Greenville.I am supposed to get it on Thursday. We will see-two snowstorms out here-one from last night and another tonight.Just enough snow to make travel no fun.And I don't know if it worse in Raleigh.
Sptyks: Neat Kirby promo-What mediums is this being broadcast on?Never seen such a promo.I do like the new Renovator-want to try it-have a place on my carpet reserved just for it-kinda dirty. And if the attachment can clean bare floors-have some of that to try it on,too.

About damn time haha. I was going to send you one of mine. I feel like mine has a bit more power than my sentria II, for example it really picks up the carpet on setting 4,and then I gondown to 3 whereas before I would use 2 on all other generation series kirbys.

I think it's so nice looking in person. My sales guy wanted me to take it out at his office but I said hell no.

Glad to know your doors are all open (we know what lurks behind the closed ones). I'll have to get my claw hammer and come visit you (ha ha). John Gregory is a very nice man, glad you are his friend. Keep up the great work with the vacuums - and use that "glorified sawmill". Maybe in 2019 (which is Kirby's REAL 100th anniversary), you can take that boat anchor out of the box and enjoy it. One day many years from now a future collector will thank me because of all of the NIB vacuums I have been able to preserve .

Without someone like myself there will not be any NIB vintage vacuums for someone to enjoy , I am already thinking about someone I have never met and they probably hasn't even been born yet .

I am insuring the future collectors happiness and if they chose to open and use my NIB vacuums that's their business .

NIB appreciation is probably the best thing i have learned from you.
IMO, If done right you actually you will end up hoarding fewer vacuums not more.
That said, if you have the space, hoarding vacuums mostly keeps them from land fills and is a harmless joy if that is your thing.
Dan, your entire NIB collection probably costs much less than one TOL Harley or mid line Hyundai. It is hardly an outsized sum of money for one person to spend in the scheme of things. Shoot, might as well go down to Starbucks and start shouting at the customers.

That said you seem to be involved in various feuds here, of which i know nothing about other than a lot of snarky comments are bandied about, by both sides.. I haven't lost any sleep over it myself.

You are so right and over the years it doesn't cost much at all .
They are easier to store and take up a small amount of space plus they hide easilly ;)
Everyone treats their collections as they feel fit I am into brand new in box vacuums
vintage and new .

When I was young I picked vacuum from the trash and almost everyone of those were like brand new and very clean . Today with my OCD and the way vacuums are so filthy and disease and bugs lurking in them I leave those for others but mainly they go to the landfill .

I don't care about all the snarky comments and talking behind my back you know what they say they are behind you for a reason . I have only the best of friends I chat with through vacuum land you included as I associate with kind caring people we all appreciate our friendship and that's what life is all about . God has blessed me and I am truly grateful heck I am not even a church goer and I know God is here for me
I close my eyes at night knowing I have lived an amazing life and treated everyone with the utmost respect and kindness .

I remember that one...the hellions on the street behind us had that as a spare they also had a DS80. 5 kids, natural born slobs had to vacuum 3 times a day. She bought one of the first Traditions with the headlight switch, if I had known about the NSS Pig I would have suggested it to her as it would have fit in with that family just fine!! 😁

Nice frog water feature in Post# 317555 (behind snowblower).

I had a similar baby blue Eureka 2010 back in college. Was a hand me down from an Aunt in Cleveland. It was a little surprising that she had an old Eureka given that most of my Ohio relatives were Hoover fans. The on/off switch was a little unusual. Never had any trouble with it. I passed it on to a fellow student at graduation since it was still in great shape.

I will try this later tonight when I get to my condo but I am so excited it even has a motorized upholstery tool that attaches to the removable hand vacuum . I have the Cordless Air full size upright now this is added to my collection .

Blown away by the power of my brand new gift from my awesome friend John Gregory of Sweeper Central .

Years ago he sent me the Hoover Lynx cordless and I always thought that was a great cordless well this new cordless air is 100% better this vacuum is a true deep cleaner and the suction/air flow are incredible for a cordless vacuum . I have yet to try my full size cordless air that John Gregory gifted me earlier the past year but I am sure it's just as amazing as this cordless air is . This new cordless air could literally be an only vacuum to use daily without the need for an electric full sized vacuum . Hoover has some really great vacuums lately I can't wait to see all the new stuff the have coming out very soon .

The Hoover cordless air is the same as the Vax Air cordless over here.

While I agree it's performs well for a cordless I wouldn't say the airflow was outstanding. The suction through the hose is average at best.

And try not to get blown away Dan we would miss you :-)

Oh my mistake. We have the Vax Air cordless which is the same as the Hoover Air cordless with a hose. :)

Think the one you are referring to is the one in photo 2. Which is the stick vac over here. Not tried that one. But I will :-)

I would use a cordless for a quick clean inbetween my mains cleaner.

I love my Vax Cordless Air. So easy and so much more convienient to use. The only thing I don't like about it is that suction through the hose is lousy, plus it is pretty like the original "mains corded" desigm of the Vax Mach Air; uselessly short hose on boatd, even thougn obviously the mains power provides strong suction.

As you can see from my photo, despite the Cordless Air having a naturally known slim profile, the fixed handle puts it in the shade versus "modern" bagged cylinder vacs that still have a one up on the Vax/TTI design. I'm still mystified as to why TTI have not added a telescopic/height adjustable handle. It would make more sense for those required to put this vacuum away in tight storage areas.

Yes Mark now you got it right 😁

The cordless stick vac can be used as the only vac for some people I am shocked at the power of this little vacuum . Plus the long life batteries and you can use them across the entire air cordless line you can vacuum an entire house without the cord .

I like the fact that the batteries are included in Vax 6 year warranty which surprises me as in my experience of rechargeable batteries they lose their effectiveness after 2 years.

An adjustable handle would be a good move as would a HEPA filter but as a HEPA filter would reduce suction they would need more power to compensate.

Here's the Vax video of it in terms of general maintenance for the Vax Cordless Air "Switch". Price wise in the UK, they don't cost that much more than the Cordless Air. I can see they're a good second alternative if anyone miss the slip out hand held dust buster. Reminds me a little of the old Dirt Devil "HooverEurope Freejet" mk1 design in many ways.

Possibly why TTI have released it to revisit old range timelines, not just using the same batteries. Pity the handle isn't folding and requires a screw to insert; the main difference to the "full size" Cordless Air is that the handle just locks in an instant and there's no screws.

A HEPA filter is available on lesser suction cordless hand vacs alone as well as some cordless stick vacs supplied currently by many brands, Marcus - - there's one on my MR Super Vac (known as "Hoover Presto" in the U.S), TTI may well offer HEPA in the future on the Cordless Air design.

Post# 318462 , Reply# 247   3/16/2015 at 07:17 (3,329 days old) by marcusprit ()

I hope they do. The Dyson V6 Absolute has a HEPA filter. But only a 2 year warranty so if the battery loses it's effectiveness you will have to buy a new battery.

I did read this morn that Dyson are gonna invest $15 million into a company called Sakti3 which could result in a big step forward in batteries.

Again it will come down to actual ownership versus subjective theories in how long filters/batteries last. One can't always make judgements based on short warranties etc on top of that; some brands don't honour any guarantee on the actual battery added unless they find fault with it.

Post# 318465 , Reply# 250   3/16/2015 at 07:25 (3,329 days old) by marcusprit ()

Well every mobile phone I've owned the battery has lost its effectiveness after 2 years sometimes less than 2 years. So if it's correct that Vax warranty their batteries for 6 years that's a good thing. But I think they are gonna have have to replace a lot of batteries :-)

They do give you 2 batteries though so that will help.

A mobile phone compared to a cordless upright? No, you can't base your experience on that sadly! Mobile phones can use a lot more power in general than a second back up cleaning device in the home; not least for the fact that even one blinking "charge me!" bar lit bar left on the Vax battery, I can still get around the whole of my home before it just cuts out.

Post# 318469 , Reply# 252   3/16/2015 at 07:45 (3,329 days old) by marcusprit ()

We will have to agree to disagree on this one Nar. I hope the batteries will not lose their effectiveness and last for the 6 year warranty period but I very much doubt it.

You can shed as much opinion as you want, Marcus but its about as useful as a fart in a bag.

You don't own the vacuum, so its impossible to be subjective on how long or short the battery will last. Like ALL vacuums, regardless of whether they are mains powered or cordless, life expectancy will be determined by usage and general handling.

Cost effectively without the usage of actually powering up a vacuum cleaner in the first place, the Cordless Air is a better alternative in my ownership experience than the humble Gtech cordless sweepers! And yes I did have a Gtech sweeper. The neighbour now has it; it gets used twice a week, uses an older 7.2V battery and it is 3 years old. There are no signs of it running out and the Lithium batteries that now replace these older Ni-Cds are proven to last longer.

I forgot to mention, one other thing to watch, if you haven't found out already, Dan is the open sole plate. There are no carpet grid bars on the Cordless Air upright, so the edges of rugs and mats are suscpetible to be sucked up and into the brush bar, thus cutting it out. Had TTI actually added carpet grid bars, I fear this wouldn't have been a problem, but then they'd have to counteract the suction-down force on hard floors if the brush roll is switched off.

and say I'm as much use as a fart in a bag :-)

But if it has improved on the Sebo it must be one awesome VAC!

Awesome vacuum I never liked Sebo but I LOVE this vacuum plus it has Windtunnel technology it picks up so much more than a Sebo .

Marcus, Check previous thread www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

It isn't a model that Im keen on. NOT only because it copies SEBO but the excuse that it apparently took Hoover "several years" to come up with something "new" that clearly wasn't.

Despite what Dan may say, only a few online reviews for the Hoover Insight/Profile exist and most reveal the models aren't that well built compared to SEBO.

Also check www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-... which gives photos.

No i doubt they are as well built as Sebo. Performance wise i can't comment but it is clearly a Sebo copy which is a bit naughty. But it wouldn't be the first time a design has been copied.

Post# 318582 , Reply# 269   3/17/2015 at 08:47 (3,328 days old) by marcusprit ()

Btw the Hoover Insight has a Bronze award by the CRI which is the same as the Sebo X series so it seems it has the same performance but the Sebo has better build quality and a longer warranty.

Well you can see how "'good" the plastic quality is on the Profile's side profile.

Bear in mind Marcus, warranties differ per country and for the commercial market you're lucky if you get 1 or 2 years.

Oh yes Sebo BS Comfort i think has a 1 year warranty so the Hoover Insight has a 2 year warranty even though the Sebo is built better.

Is the warranty on a G1 one year also?

You love your Sebo I detest that brand I love my Hoover insight you do not have to like the insight .

That's why we have many brands and that's why Sebo will never be part of my collection.

Strange how you detest Sebo Dan but love an exact copy of Sebo G1 which has the same performance :-)

Well not an exact copy it's a poorer built G1

Personally I'd prefer the original Sebo not a Hoover copy. But as you say each to their own.:-)

It's a shame really a company such as Hoover with it's long history has to copy another brand. I'd expect better.

Btw i don't detest Kirby i think they make an excellent Vac wish they would make a 12' nozzle for people who don't need a 15' nozzle in a smaller home.

They don't have to change the cleaner, just offer a smaller nozzle. That would be good.

I don't detest Hoover either, they've made some very nice Vacs over the years.

But as I said before that's my God given right and that's my personal opinion .

I guess I can say I like the G1 but the Automatic version is the one I can say I detest I have yet to buy a Felix but I hear they are better than all Sebos 😁

NOTHING out cleans my true LOVE the KIRBY well maybe another love of mine the Tacony tandem air vacuums ❤️

Just because I detest most of Sebo I am not saying it's a bad brand they sell well they just are not my cup of tea ☕️

Maybe one day Tacony will come to Europe who knows I wish Goblin would have been in the U.S. I love to looks of their machines .

Dan, Goblin models or rather, Morphy Richards who took over the brand offer plasticky vacuums, not high end, but rather more for the low market budget niches. The vacs that are not made in Germany are more plentiful but still rare now in 2015. MR's models made in Germany are better, but it's a real pity that the Goblin company who first supplied vacuums historically, have been made to go under. I hear on the grapevine that MR are thinking of pulling out of the market altogether...

It's not just Tacony who need to consider Europe, but rather a lot of the Electrolux companies that we don't get either; Sanitaire (only one model came to the UK a few years ago which got most UK collectors interested) and Aerus would be great.

Or even a brand new Royal upright; not something I'm prepared to pay at commercial vacuuming prices and not a second hand one that has been used in a hotel to pick up after mucky people.

MR also brought in Shark uprights only a few years ago. Before that we have only been able to buy Kirby or Oreck. Im thankful that Black & Decker products are still available to buy here, though.

Don't sell in Europe because everyone seems to be stuck on Miele , Sebo and Dyson and European homes are smaller and the carpet is low pile with no padding or mainly bare floors as in the US we have large homes thick padded carpet .

We could never get away with straight suction canisters here they would never clean our carpets .

Europe is also obsessed cylinder machines. I have never understood this as a cylinder takes up more space to store than a upright. Especially today with modern uprights incorporating all the hoses and attachments. With a cylinder you have to find space to store the hose pipes and floor tool aswell as the vacuum.

I'm 95% upright Gareth

"With a cylinder you have to find space to store the hose pipes and floor tool aswell as the vacuum."

Maybe on a round tub where storage is not possible.

As for sledge style vacs, not quite. A lot of cylinder vacs are able to store hose or tools on board. All in one with only a side profile that means excess hose emerging. Not all that different to storing uprights in my experience.

The "reason" that most of Europe is obsessed with cylinder vacs is the environment. Mostly all countries bar those in the snow and the UK have lighter weather all year around. Flooring is also mostly hard floors as a result. The UK tends to be damper, colder and thus carpets are in homes. Naturally we're a nation of upright vac buyers, which is one reason alone to why Hoover Europe cater for the UK with more uprights than cylinders.
