I dont know that I agree with you their sebofan. I have only seen a handfull of canisters that store hoses onboard. Only dyson did it efficiently but they no longer offer these models. AEG tried but it was more work to try and get the hose wrapped than anything else.

I stand corrected but other than dyson's dc08,11,20,21,22,23 models and the aeg I have not seen a Modern (last 10 years ) sledge cylinder that stores its hose, wand , floor tool onboard without the machine in park position meaning it takes up as much space as a large upright.

The dc23 was big seller because of this feature here in SA

Lovin' the NIB pictures! Hoover seems to have had a nice graphic design department. How could one not want one of those Hoovers? "Made in the USA" is proudly displayed on the box, it's lightweight, and has a large dust capacity.  Everything that even contemporary consumers want. Bagless isn't always what they're cracked up to be.

Interested

Dan,
I am new to this website and I love searching through the pictures of your collection. I am 15 and work at a vacuum store and collect vacuums. All of my vacuums are new or restored and I am very picky about the condition that they are in. Do you have any vintage upright hoovers or Orecks that you would sell so I could add another piece to my microscopic collection compared to some of the ones on here. I would love to see them even if you don't want to part with them yet. Thank you. - spencer

Glad you are enjoying my thread 😊

I am a clean freak so only brand new or close toning vacuums are for me only . As of right now I am keeping all of my vintage Hoovers as for Orecks I only have brand new modern ones . God I remember
Being 15 just a few years ago 😜 trust me you'll have a large collection very soon especially working in a vacuum shop .

I have new vacs. I buy them new but use them and see how they work and compair. Then i clean them iut and put them away till next time But my true vacuum passion lies in restoration. I love taking old and battered and returning it to new. It can be a Hoover Elite or a Kirby 508. I sand and polish them to new condition

Thought it would be "fun"

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
To finally get a Sebo Felix freshly taken pictures of my new Felix Fun by Sebo .
Everyone raves about it so I was visiting my good friend Johnny "D" at his vacuum shop
and he said I will sell you my floor model the Orange one over there and you can put your
curiosity to rest .
Plus he wanted to pull out an Ice Blue to use as a demo as he had only sold one Orange fun .

Well it's an ok vacuum I love the quiet soft start motor and the stiff brush roll the end !
It's a deceivingley heavy vacuum ,very heavy to hold and to push through my thick Frieze' carpet
I used it once now I'm done . The hose is very annoying to use he even gave me the extension
hose but my God pull it an inch and the machine falls over . Very poor design for a German machine
it blows very hot air out of the bag so you not only get to struggle with the weight but you also get to work up a sweat doing so . He sold the attachments and clip to a customer and was ordering me attachments I am going to call him Monday and tell him to keep ️em as I won't be using this again .
I only paid $125.00 for it so I'm not that upset just thought I'd like it more than I did .

The KIRBY self propelled vacuums move so much easier through my carpet and are not at all that much heavier than this Sebo . The Sebo pushed easy on my low pile oriental door mat so I am sure it'd do fine
on anything but deep pile carpets .

Still no fun it's a neat looking vacuum just very heavy to push and to carry up stairs .

I tried to use vacuum as it shoud be with hose by removing PN and lowering handle I am
sorry but some complain about using KIrby attachments they are a breeze compared to lugging
the Felix around to dust or vacuum the sofa .

Regarding the Felix, at least you got a steal on the price. On the plus side (for me), your bad experience saves me from ever adding one to my collection.

Thanks for the blue heron story. It reminds me of a painting by one of my favorite artists Jim Gray: www.jimgraygallery.com/index.cgiQ... Sorry to hear that the damn thing ate your prize fish.

Dan,

Sorry to hear you don't like your Felix. I still really want one, as I have mostly low pile carpets and lots of hardwood floors, which is where they really excel.

It's a good thing that there are so many other vacuums in the world. We can all have our favorites and dislike whatever we please. To each his own.

Keep the pics coming!

Dan, I love that pearl constellation you have. I bought a stainless one on eBay, the seller listed it as mint and I had to put a new motor in when it got here. :(

I wished I could find a 120v Maytag one as well but I doubt that will happen lol.

We do our home/garden show this weekend, so I'll be up to my neck in brand new Riccar brilliances, radiances and Maytag m1200s. Also have a ton of new dyson v6 cordless units to sell.

I hope all is well!

Newer Filter Queen vacuums just don't thrill me-their plastic canisters-no more "paddle" power switches.Remember when they used the rocker switch to select speed-hi or lo.Liked the metal body machines better-and they had more powerful motors!Suction and Baird guages showed the diffrence.I have a new one similar to the one you show-just don't use it-and their cords are just TOOO SHORTT!I spelled it that way to get the point.Seen a few of these newer machines come in to the Sew&Vac place to have that rocker speed-power switch replaced. The paddle ones held up better.

I think since this is a European vacuum (German) they designed it for Europe then said hey we should sell it in the U.S. just like Dyson has done meanwhile he has been trying to get his machines to clean our deep pile carpets and he hasn't been successful yet .

I really wanted to like this Felix but as you say thank God we have many brands to choose from .

Dan,

If you ever decide that you want to free up some space by selling that Felix, I would most certainly be interested in it.

Knowing you, of course, it is brand new condition, unlike so many other used machines that come up.

and I will clean that up and donate it to my local food bank thrift store .

Dan, I bought my Mom that exact same Hoover Elite in 1996 to replace a Eureka Victory 10 amp upright that she bought to retire her Kirby....she claimed I somehow broke her Eureka so I bought the Hoover to shut her up. I think she was fed up with the Eureka after 4 months of owning it though, that's why she wanted the Hoover. She claimed that Hoover Elite was nearly as good as the Kirby, mainly because she had pets & she could stuff the bags right to the top before needing to be changed. Mom used it combined with her old 89 canister & had it for 6 years before I talked her out of it :-). Not nearly as good as a Convertible, but pretty good for a cheaply made plastic Hoover.

For a plastic vacuum that was made right here in the U.S. I feel it was of very good quality I have repaired many at my store and most were beat to HE double hockey sticks but they took the abuse .

They were a great replacement as they cleaned really well and they sold well also .

I loved them and still love Hoover Even today's .

VERY IMPRESSED just as Tom Gasko said it would be but it's much more amazing in person in my home . QUIET/POWEFUL two words to describe it but gorgeous sleek and sexy could be added to the description of what I believe is "THE" perfect canister vacuum that is so user friendly whisper quiet ultimate power sexy yet simple sophisticated design . This vacuum also comes with Weezee seal of approval she LOVES her new Prima as does her daddy . Tacony/Riccar have a new a true top selling winner on its hands . Toms influence along with the vacuum museum is evident in the design and final product I am truly impressed and it has been worth the wait . Love the wand talk about quality. The hose is the perfect length 8.5 feet with suction relief valve and comfortable hand grip plus the canister is very light . The cord winder works flawlessly just like an Electrolux add to that a LONG cord this is "THE" perfect canister . I love the Electrolux dusting brush , I love the "furget it " pet tool it cleans Weezees hair like magic .
The bags are perfection at its best the superb quality is impressive.
Tom Gasko made sure I got serial number 2 off the assembly line he has number one of course .

Bravo and congratulations Tacony and Tom Gasko this is an awesome canister vacuum .
I give this is a Kirbyloverdan "MUST BUY " !!!

The Prima looks like a great American competitor to the Miele lineup. From the side it looks very similar to a S8. How much dirt do you think the bag can hold? Outside it looks huge, but it's hard to tell from the picture when it's installed. This might be a silly question, but is the canister body made in St. Louis? It looks very sturdy and I bet Tacony will sell a good amount of these. Just please don't be too expensive. I might need one of these... :)

I am not sure how much dirt but the bags are huge .

As stated in previous threads the canister is made in China for now until sales pick up
which I think will be very soon then will be made in St.Louis Tacony factory .

The powernozzle is made here in the U.S. at Taconys U.S. factory .

It is miles ahead of Miele way longer hose large normal sized attachments .

Hey Dan…

This is the Other New Jersey Dan…

I am cracking up reading your post - I think Tom Mixed the two of us up…

When he e-mailed me to tell me that he could finally sell me one, he made a comment about getting me the second one off of the line, and that he kept the first for himself…

While I thought that was very nice thing to do, I wondered right then and there if he had mixed the two of us up… Or at least confused our e-mails...

Now I just hope I have something being delivered tomorrow !!! (After all Tom did charge my card !!!)

Funny Mixup aside, I am glad to hear that you are pleased and it was everything you thought and more…
It looks like a class act - Great color…

I will let you know what I think after mine arrives…

Tom - Do I have something coming as well tomorrow ??? Dan P. (Danorob1)

Congratulations on the Prima. It's nice to see a vacuum designed with the end user in mind rather than just the pinhead in accounting who thinks a 5 ft hose is just fine. Since I have a long haired dog, I have to ask about the pet brush. Does it work well?

Nice looking vac but too bad it has the big, clunky hose handle - it is OK when vacuuming the carpet or floors but still way too bulky when doing a lot of above the floor cleaning.

You can tell a lot of thought and design from other vacuums are in this canister vacuum from Tacony .
The long hose is perfect length it can reach very high without having to lift the machine .

Gary ,
I have no problem with the hose handle but then again I also have no problem with an Aerus hose handle . I guess it's personal preference the Prima is a very comfortable vacuum to use very user friendly.

I guess it all depends on how you use the vacuum and how much above the floor cleaning you use it for. I have had several vacs (Aerus, Filter Queen, Rainbow, Miele, Vortech Force, etc.) all which have the gas pump style handle and I have disliked them all as they are just too large and bulky when doing a lot of above the floor cleaning and in tight quarters. The traditional handle style on most vintage vacs is most comfortable for me. My favourite would have to be the handle on my Lux '89 with the trigger control for the power nozzle. It gives full control of turning the nozzle on/off and yet the handle is very compact and light.

I just noticed your post saying how much you dislike the gas pump handle on Aerus vacuum hoses. Just wanted to let you know, for your Guardian Platinum, that machine end hose connector is available as a separate part. If you really do prefer the pistol grip, it would be easy enough to order it & the Classic hose & put the Guardian hose connector on it, so you would have a pistol grip hose to use for dusting. I was looking into it myself, & still thinking on it....some of the rugs I have the L shaped Aerus PN does OK but could do better so I use a Eureka VG III PN on them instead, which is why I was looking into a 2nd hose for the Platinum. And yes I am using the new-style 10 degree brushroll in my powerhead, so that isn't the issue.

Right the only thing I can remember walking into a JC Penny is that wafting aweful smell radiating from the so called beauty salon. Boy that smell could strip the paint off anything, probably why appliances were on the second floor far away from it! And no for the smart A$$'$ on here it is not me that smells, I shower several times a day, not weeks OR months

I scrapped it. Very loud and very cheap. They did clean carpet well though. I still have a World Vac Bravo 2 from a family friend that passed away. I was lucky to find a NOS motor for it for $36. I've used it for about ten minutes total and am probably not going to use it much more. Due to it's cheapness, I want to keep it "preserved." Most of these i've seen have bad motors or at least bad bearings.

Those are tanks! In my opinion, the Eureka's and Sanitaires were overall better vacuums in comparison to the Convertible, but that's just me. I no longer have any F & G's, but If I find a 60's or 70's model i'd probably buy it.

Mitchell the reason

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
Why Hoover was always better it was considered a top of the line luxury vacuum in department stores where Eureka was always considered a bargain brand vacuum .

Now the metal Eurekas were very good machines and the plastic ESP were the only good ones from the plastic line of Eureka .

Pool filter

I could tell by the crystal clear shimmer of the water. Nothing can do that like a DE Filter.
There is a new cellulois fiber media that can be used as a substitute for DE but I have no idea if it's as good and will give pool water that same polished look

A member on the washer site had this very same issue with poor photo quality from his mobile phone and he got pictures like this with that awful haze on them.

He took a Q tip and dipped it in rubbing alcohol and gave the camera lens a darn good clean. Now his pics are very sharp without a greasy haze. I tried it too and it works!

Stan you and I

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
Both know that the Kirby will out clean the Aerus ...

But for my family members in which I purchase vacuums for Aerus is "THE" best choice for ease of use and they do a great job cleaning and outlast many other brands of vacuums .

I purchase this brand exclusively for my family so I don't have to hear
my vacuum is broken or I don't know how to use it as you well know a Kirby is not everyone's vacuum and Aerus fits more people .

Great question but you already knew the answer 😉

One of the things I like about you (among many things) is that you like all kinds and brands of vacuums. I find collectors that only dwell on one brand to be sad and pathetic. The ones who think the sun rises and sets with just one brand - and that brand could do not wrong - are like people who eat rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with nothing else. I find this kind of person usually turns out to be lonely, dried up old spinsters.

John Gregory is a hoot to talk to. You know the expression "If you don't have anything nice to say about someone, sit here by me"? That's why I talk to John. He knows the filth and dirt, and isn't afraid to spill it. He makes me laugh, and knows more about current vacuums than anyone else I've talked to. He's a great guy. Thanks for introducing me to him.

I have a favorite brand and I do understand those who collect only one brand but for me its about having some of everything. I like to look at my collection and see the progression of design, How style was influence by various outside sources.
For me the problem comes in when you are so fixated on one brand that you cannot see any good in others. I love the brand of vacuum I sell in my shop I think its great but i also like other brands too.

The point is to respect the right to be different and that others like different brands.

He said he knew NOBODY that would appreciate this more than his collector King

It's something most collectors would dream of owning and John Gregory made my
Dream come true .

I love the Hoover Portable

My Aunt had one of those, her's was green. She would never let me play with it. I always thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw. I would sneak around so I could open the top and look at the hose and attachments.

Now that she has passed, I will have to ask my cousin what ever happened to Tootsie's vacuum.

Dan that is a blue as the water in the pool!! Very nice vacuum which reminds me my aunt from Altoona called me about some stuff she & my other aunt found while cleaning out a back closet. I didn't quite understand what she was saying but a lot of boxes have Hoover on them, never been open, she thinks maybe wedding gifts or something. Not vacuum boxes but other stuff. She said she'd call me in a few minutes/days/weeks to let me know what they are & if I want them if not what to do with them. Like I need more crap..lol

Awesome Vac

Wow Dan what a great gift, and still nib ! Your yard looks more beautiful in every pic you take of it! It has come a long way since winter. I find one of my favorite stress relievers, a side from vacuuming of course, is working in my yard. You should be proud of yours, it really shows off your hard work.

of course he stripped it down and serviced it with rare genuine NORTH CANTON OHIO HOOVER parts
this HOOVER CONVERTIBLE looks like it just came off the showroom floor of Sweeper Central in the wonderful town of Dunmore Pa back in 1969/71.

Hot pink proudly displayed by my swimming pool with Weezee strolling around in the background .

I think that we should hold a Vacuum Collectors Convention at John Gregory's store. Wouldn't that be fantastic? He's an amazing man, and I'm sure he would love to share his knowledge and skills with fellow vacuum collectors. If he would agree to get on a plane, it would be awesome to get him to come to the Convention we hold every year at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum, the second weekend in June.

Gareth, it's a BLAST. The convention is held at the Vacuum Museum, so no need to drag one's collection clear across the country. There is no 'fee' to go to the convention, and the motel expenses are low ($56 a night at the Greenstay Inn). We don't have banquets, and try to eat at good but inexpensive restaurants. I always have one barbeque (this year it's at the pavilion at the Tacony factory), which is at no cost to my friends. There are no cliques, no hook ups, and no one feels left out of the fun. No alcohol during the convention hours, so no hurt feelings (and no apologies the next day). What someone drinks after hours is their own choice.

There's a tremendous amount of sharing. I 'hoard' bags, belts, vac, and repair parts all year long, just to share them with my fellow collectors. Right now, I have a box with over 200 packs of obsolete bags to share, some of them more than forty years old. I save hoses, and brush rollers from machines that are duplicates before getting rid of the machine.

And we have door prizes, like the Maytag M1200 that will be raffled off this year. There is no 'set in stone' agenda, just fellow vacuum collectors, learning about vacuums, and enjoying each others company and fellowship. It is NOT fancy, and certainly NOT 'high society drama queens' trying to out do each other.

That's the main reason I prefer brand new I want to be the one to dirty it I don't want someone else's filth and diseases in my home and on my carpets . The only used vacuums I ever put into my home are from relatives or my awesome friend John Gregory of Sweeper central when he sends me a Hoover vacuum, I know it's been torn down and parts replaced with brand new North Canton genuine Hoover parts he knows about my OCD and his machines he sends me are meticulous and sanitized to brand new standards .

Used vacuums-I do have several used machines in my collection.I have cleaned them up-or the vac dealer I deal with does it-often me and the dealer do it together-same with sewing machines I bought from him or I got from yard sales. The Kirby Sentrias,Sentria 2 and Heritage I got from Mike are pretty much brand new-only been used for their demo or a couple other times. The bags in the machines often are not even full!Mike-the vac guy I deal with takes these machines as trades and offers the customer another machine-often a Meile or Sebo. Then the trade ins are shown to me.Most I have taken in.There is one very PITIFUL 'Lux Guardian I left in his pile-the silly add on filter was duct taped on and the machine was dirty and beat up-smelled horrible when run!And those Guardians with the last moment add on HEPA filter sound like you are trying to vacuum with a B-52 engine!Have heard those when my Dad was in the Air Force!LOUD!!!!B -52s were impressive to watch during take offs!I also keep watches on his sewing machine trade in piles, too.Would like older examples of Bernina and Pfaff.Like the mostly mechanical machines-they are easier to keep going-no circuit boards!

The Lux Guardian shown is like the one I used to have-hated the external filter-it would pop off when the vacuum bumpted into something and wasn't quiet like other 'Lux canisters were. The one I found in the vac shops trade in pile was like yours shown-but yours is in so much better shape! The vac shop one was beat up,dirty, and the filter duct taped onto the machine. And it smelled when you ran it-even with a clean bag.If I can find a clean 'lux like yours maybe I will reconsider it.The vacuum does work well, though. The Guardians have a larger bag so they don't fill quickly with the powernozzle as the other 'Lux machiens using the smaller C bag.

Rex ,That was the major complaint

kirbyloverdan's profile picture
That stupid filter which was an after thought I always preferred the Rennisanse with the flat micro filter under tool caddy it was enough this HEPA stuff can get carried away .

I have never had it fall off but as I have said I only use canisters and this one rarely .

That's why my neighbour in Florida didn't buy it because it looked stupid plus she knocked it off accidentally with the hose in the demo but did get the Lux7000 & the Ambassador III & I got her Silverado w/deluxe package!

Since you aren't as fond of your Electrolux Guardian as you are of other canisters in your collection, would you consider selling it? I have been considering buying one for a long time now, & it would be VERY tempting to buy one that's virtually brand new, as yours is.

I have a heck of a time trying to get mine off to check it .
I actually tried to pull it off and I lifted the entire vacuum in the air and it stayed stuck in the machine .

I finally did remove it but it wasn't an easy task :)

That's something I have to really think about I have a heck of a time letting go of my vacuums .

I think I have sold a total of 6 since I have started this thread . I really think I am a vacuum hoarder and I really regret the 6 I have sold but yet I still have tons more as you can see from my thread .

I also have the 75th anniversary Guardian as well pics of that one very soon .

With that much gold you could buy another Rainbow.

I wouldn't mind having a Rainbow for the novelty of it, but there's no way I'd part with the kind of green those Leprechauns want.

Dan:Mine always popped off-made me think of a toy rocket I had as a kid that launched in a similar way-you stompted on a large air bulb to fire the toy rocket.I horse traded the'Lux machine to a dealer for a Kirby G4 or something.I had seen other Guardians with their filters duct taped in place.I have an old grey Renessance-this machie is quiet and has its filter inside-under a cover on back-top of the canister. Will have to drag this one out and try it some-its behind several rows of vacuums and other stuff.

Do you think John "G" would any parts for a model 150 upright? I found one that's not in too bad shape for its age.

I acquired a brand new Kirby Heritage II with the small rug tool, attachments & rug renovater/shampooer, never been used all for FREE!!!!! After they had a weekend garage sale Fri-Sat & the people all left yesterday they were going through the house & found it in the attic so I didn't have to be told twice it was for free, I just quickly collected it & carried it home before they changed their minds as sometimes old people will do! LOL No musky smells or anything never seen a climate controlled attic before but then again here nothing ever surprises me or shocks me at all.

Hello Marks_here,

I'm not sure of the color. I just read that it has been elusive to a prominent Hoover collector from PA. I had no idea that Hoover made/private labeled so many kitchen products.

It's nice to see such a positive article about a vac collector. Tom and his colleagues at Tacony have set up a very nice vacuum museum. Clearly his knowledge and experience are valued.

I wonder how many Rainbows he had to sell back then to earn $7000.
