Everything was so expensive :D. I have that same green Hoover Caddy Vac, and put a CWP brushroll in it, and it is AMAZING.

WOW, I have used alot of those vacuums! I own that Oreck, I have the newer red Windtunnel, the blue one is a Tempo now, I have repaired some of those Eurekas, and friend of mine had that Panasonic upright, my family owned that Hoover Soft 'n Light, and my grandparents had the green caddy vac! Boy do I miss them. Thanks for posting!

Don't you think that $100 is a bit much for an Elite, even new?

Notice that most of the listings for Hoover, Eureka, and Dirt Devil say "USA".

Post# 101553 , Reply# 12   6/22/2010 at 21:23 (5,056 days old) by myvacsrock (USA)
Well

Yeah made in USA was even a big deal then considering the Panasonic and Sharp vacuums shown there were made in Japan and Spain.

I once had the Eureka World Vac canister....loved that cleaner!!! The floor brush stored on board, and that power nozzle was great - very maneuverable and it was like it had its own power drive.....Mine was in a cool cranberry red colour.

Thanks for posting Kyle. I enjoyed looking at that. I have the one from 1996... I just bought a new Canon wireless all in one scanner/printer so maybe I will figure out how to use it and post pics. SOMEWHERE around here I have one from 198? something that I stole from high school when we were doing a project and it has the Concepts (the black on with the chrome handle is sooooo sexy!) and the Decade and the Whrilpool Kenmore uprights and Singer Kenmore uprights... I love all of them! Maybe if I can find it, I'll post it too.

It's amazing to see the changes from 96 to 97. 97 was the beginning of vacuums as we know them today, when the bagless craze started thanks to Fantom. In 96, there were no Whirlwinds or Windtunnels... they only had the Fantom Thunder (at least in the JC Penny Catolog).... they had things like Hoover Preffered and I think the Demension upright and futura canister (I think it's been a while since I looked at it). Eurekas were the Powerlines and World Vacs and top of the like was the Excalibur both canister and upright. They had the bagged Dirt Devil stick vac with the triangle head and a Bissell Big Green clean machine with power nozzle (I always wanted that one, we had the regular one growing up). I was obsessed with Fantoms when they came out! They also had a Bissell hand vac that was similar to the original Dirt Devil and a Eureka SHOP VAC of all things!

Thanks for posting the neat pictures Kyle, I have the Wind Tunnel Supreme. I had no idea they were that expensive new.

I didn't know the Mighty Mite has been around for at least that long.
haha, Dirt Devil's still looked half real there in 1997.

The Mighty Mite has been around for a long time. I have one from the 80's I think. The person I got it from is 50+ years old and he said he got it before he was married! It's more of a square shape.

"Covered tool storage area includes 6' hose, 2 chrome extension wands.....and 15' power nozzle."

Boy, that's one magical tool storage area!

There have been three versions of the Eureka Mighty Mite....

eurekaprince's profile picture
The first version was on the market in 1987 - I bought one with chrome wands for my brother as a wedding gift. The Mighty Mite II (with the World Vac style tools) was on the market in 1997 - it had a very good German Miele style carpet/floor nozzle with a metal sole plate. What we see now in stores is actually the third version with that horribly useless combination dusting brush/upholstery nozzle, and a brushless carpet nozzle.

My Mighty Might Boss has black plastic wands and tools, and the flimsy hose, but what a little sucker! I love it, I could swear my brother bought it for mom in the late '80s, and that's when the Lux Model L disappeared.

I remember those exact pages....

that was from about the time that i had Aunt Marys convaertible (green model U1307) and moms convertible (butterschtch U4119), and also more importantly the time i started noticing vacuums. (great i just made it sound like puberty!)

The scary thing about the Orecks is that these same models were still on sale for the same price when I managed an Oreck store in 2003!

This does bring back memories. I worked for sears in 97, and got to use most of those vacs. I purchased the Windtunnel Supreme then and got it for less than 200.00 with my dicount, I also bought the turbo power 2000(aka futura) canister, I still have it,its at a friend's house I converted it to a PN vacuum. The windtunnel had a short and lasted 3months. I took it back for an Elite type turbo power cause they were out of the w/t...

Can't believe I remember those exact pages!

Especially the Eurekas, only ours was yellow other than that exactly the same as the ones pictured. I always wanted the Hoovers, unfortunately I didn't know at the time that they would become chinese pieces of crap.
