I have a recurring problem while trying to rebuild vintage Electrolux motors. I cant seem to get the brush holders to center up with the commutator,I tap the new bearing on the shaft to where the old bearing was positioned then tap on the bearing plate on.But when the shaft goes in the back bushing the spacing is wrong. What am I doing wrong? I have two beautiful machines I want to restore.

Hmm... with all the gazillion XXXs still floating around, wouldn't it be a lot easier to pull a motor from a donor machine?! Or better yet, upgrade it with a later model's motor? Any motor up to the 1205 will fit. I even managed to get a SuperJ motor into a souped-up XXX, with a little bit of mounting hardware retrofitting... That baby will "suck dry paint off the wall" as Hans Craig would say.......

Problem solved

I spoke with Pete at Pete's vacuums in Tucson and he said all you do is tap the shaft down with a soft mallet and then tighten the flange screws then the bearing plate screws and you are back in Bus. this worked fine the commutator is now centered.
