Tonight, I went to spend time and have dinner with my friend Patrick Dawson. He got off work early today and went to one of the used vacuum shops here in St. Louis and brought home two very cool Hoover Convertibles for me. The first one is a model 589. It's a very interesting color, somewhere between pink and purple with a metal base-- very cool machine, I can't wait to get it cleaned up. The second is a newer plastic base machine, model U4401, also a cool machine. He also gave me one of the Electroluxes that I am missing in my collection, the Grand Marquis. Thank you sooooo much Patrick, I love these machines very much :) Here are some pictures.. and I will post more after I get them all cleaned up.

The 589...

Is a great cleaner!

That color is obnoxiously wonderful! I forget what the color is called... at the moment, I've got it written down somewhere. Oh well.
I've seen a good number of that cleaner. It's from the 1969 series, along with the 1070, 1020, and 719--that would have been the 'budget' machine to the 719; or the 'budget' model on the "B line" of cleaners..

What wonderful cleaners! The 589 is one of my favorites. It's just so...out there (LOL). The Grand Marquis to me is the last good Electrolux that was made.

Just got off the horn with Jeff P... The color is 'Victorian Rose'.

I almost had a hard time sleeping last night, as I couldnt remember the color's name. :-)

589

Thanks to Fred, I have a flawless 589 in my convertible collection, doesn't look like it was ever used. Looking forward to my next convertible restoration, you're the best Fred!

Derreck, congratulations! Isn't that just the best color on the 589? I LOVE mine! Like Fred said, they're really good machines for being "lower-tier" models.

Wow...a 589. That was one of the first four Hoover Convertible models to use the new (and sometimes hated) four position rug height adjuster. This model was a little better than the bottom of the line 1020 "Brady Bunch" Convertible. The 589 had a full wrap around bumper instead of half a bumper. The only things missing were the headlight and handle grip. Great finds!!
