I posted this on Andrew's hose problem thread, but thought others that might be interested in this might not see it there.

Consumer Reports has finally reviewed the Miele S7 in their on-line "continually updated" ratings. It did very well.

Currently tied in second place with the Kenmore Progressive (ranked behind the Hoover Anniversary WindTunnel and the Hoover Platinum Bagged, which are tied for first place). It received excellent scores on Carpet, Emissions and Pet Hair. Very Good scores for bare floors, tool airflow and noise. I am surprised that the bare floor rating is not excellent as mine really excells on the bare floor. No machine has an excellent score for Tool Airflow. Lastly, it scored Fair for handling as they found it to be heavy.

I know not everyone believes in or agrees with Consumer Reports but I find it interesting to read their opinions. I personally prefer Kirby to this Miele (or anything for that matter) and while CR begrudgingly gives Kirby a decent rating, they have always refused to give it the credit that it is due.

Anyhow, thought you all would find this interesting. They clearly don't know about Andrew's hose problems.

Which? Magazine's response to the S7 has also been overwhelmingly positive; so far, they've tested 3 models from the range, and each has been declared a 'Best Buy'.

However, by comparing the ratings of the three models tested, we can see the fallibility of Which?'s system. Notice that the S7510 AutoCare scores less highly than the S7210 for pick-up from floorboards...

...while the S7260 Cat & Dog scores less highly on laminate!

Aside from small spec differences, such as the presence or absence of a headlight, Super Air Clean vs. HEPA filter, etc, these are the same machine!

I also think Which?'s justification for their Best Buy rating for these machines - 'Miele's uprights are new, and we have no data for their reliability, but their cylinders are very reliable...' is shaky at best; as we've seen with Andrew's S7, the upright models are subject to their own specific part failures, and you can't just 'borrow' reliability feedback from a completely different format of cleaner!

My reliability report...

I can't resist. Here is my twice tried reliability report... the S7 has since been sent back to the dealer and replaced with a S5 Leo :-)
