Hiya folks, Well - looks like my dream has come true - I'm taking my first trip from Australia to the US. Hubby's family are in Ohio - and this will be my maiden voyage across the seas and the first time to meet his family... So - I'm terribly excited and nervous all at the same time... Anyhow - hubbies mum is a keen one for tours - and seeing as I cherish my Sentria as much as my hubby - I'm trying to find out if Kirby does tours of their factory? I've seen threads long ago of people who've been - but I can't find anything out about getting in there on a tour... Is anyone able to help? And does anyone know how long we'd need to allow for it? We'll be doing some tripping around (based in Columbus) and just wanting to prepare myself with as much info as possible! Any help would be greatly appreciated folks!! |

Steve, as Morgan mentioned your best bet is to call Kirby and ask. I am not sure if they do individual tours or not. They are great people and will help you if they can. Terry |

At a number of things - firstly Kirby's response wasn't exactly as 'friendly' as I'd hoped and unfortunately, they advised that they do not do tours'!!! So - I'm pretty devastated!! I saw some pics on here ages ago of someone who'd done a tour and I was thrilled for them... So perhaps it's got to be a group thing as Morgan & Terry mentioned?? Anyhow... Guess I cross that off my list of things to do... I'm soooooooo disappointed... (Hopefully one day I'll get the chance to go through a Speed Queen washer and dryer factory!) Secondly - still forever surprised as to how lovely and helpful everyone is on both Automatic Washer and Vacuumland. Norm - we're planning on being in Columbus the week before Thanksgiving until the first week of December. So - being as that I've never experienced the US before - it will be a very foreign experience for me - and especially seeing as Thanksgiving is not something us wee Aussies ever experience - let alone with in-laws I've not met in person yet!!! But I'd sure love to have a very very brief look at your collection if your offer still stands during that timeframe. I certainly don't want to intrude or take up too much of your time... But perhaps also some advice on places I can look at - particularly white goods and also Music stores... (Need to source a place to purchase a Piano when we finally move to Columbus!!!) I don't want to be hassling the in-laws with those kinds of questions... They'll think I'm completely mad!!! LOL Anyhow - rambling - tired - huge day... Best be off... Feel free to email me directly if you wish folks at streakers@hotmail.com.... Cheers folks! Steve :-) CLICK HERE TO GO TO streakers's LINK |

Steve, I know it is a long time to wait but in 2014 our convention for the VCCC is going to be in Cleveland to help celebrate Kirby's 100th anniversary. I am sure we will be doing a tour again at that time. Terry |

Thanks Terry - but in all honesty - 2014 isn't really that far away... So - Terry perhaps you can help - I note that there is a newsletter which is distributed. How do I become a recipient of that newsletter and if there's a cost - how do I get that to the Club? Not sure how it works in regards to transfer from Aussie dollars to US...? Any suggestions? I'd dearly love to attend one of the conventions. So many machines and great people - sharing the one passion... And I'm sure that if permitted - I'll be at the 2014 convention!!! Cheers Steve. |

Regarding payment though - is there a way I can electronically transfer the funds across to the US (ensuring of course I deposit enough to cover the fees - considering the exchange rate etc.)? I couldn't imagine a US Bank accepting an Australian Cheque from me? Any suggestions Terry? Many thanks for your help! |

Steve, I have a suggestion for your payment. Wait until you are here visiting since you will need American currency and get a money order from the post office then and send your payment. |

We're here!!! Arrived in California this morning! And wow - what a stunning city!! have been to see the Golden Gate Bridge already and are now planning our very quick move in the morning to our proper hotel!! We'll be in Bush Street and on Sunday we're doing a full San Fran tour!! Will be a huge day tomorrow - so will be an early night to bed for these two little ducks! So we're thinking that we'll also take a drive out to Yosemite perhaps on Monday or Tuesday. We've picked up a Ford Edge as a rental - (interesting!) and have been burning around today - at least we have wheels!!! I still can't get used to being on the 'wrong side' of the road and sitting in the wrong side of the car!! LOL I wasn't game enough to drive today - so Craig did all the driving - considering he's a Yank and all! LOL Lunch was a little Rib place across the road from our hotel - and everyone so far has been terribly nice... Can't believe we're all the way from 'Down Under' LOL!!!! Anyhow - must be off - have pics to upload... Speak soon folks!!!! |

Perhaps those sorts of stories are best left for late night drunken conversations... LOL Oh and neither of us drink anymore! LOL Anyhow - Today we took a trip out to Yosemite.... WOW - The most beautiful place on the planet... Truly a marvel... I got to see snow for the first time, squirrels and a coyote!!! Talk about bonuses!!! I was blown away... Anyhow - I have a billion photos of our last three days here.... And luckily for my family and friends (tee hee) I don't plan on slowing down with the camera either! LOL Anyhow - late, tired, cold.... Need to get prepared for tomorrow!!! PS - Our room has an upright Eureka in it!!! LOL Cheers Steve & Craig... |

Yippee yi-o ki-a, galloping all the way, here comes Baba-Lewyt courtesy of Quick Draw McWinkler. What the heck does that mean other than a parsed & mangled reference to a 1960s half hour cartoon TV show? It means that the 1954 hammertone blue Lewyt 55 on a dolly that I won from the NC57 collection is on its way from Georgia to Columbus Ohio, where it will be de-boxed during the Thanksgiving mini meet. Thanks Rick. Dave, who still does a fair imitation of Snuffles on occasion. CLICK HERE TO GO TO aeoliandave's LINK |
