out of curiousity...what is it about the runabouts[u5064-930]
and convertble[u4119] that make them somewhat less popular..the performance seems to be on par w the competition
..yet arent considered a power house..deep claener. what were the downsides of these 2 units....at the shop im limited to a few people...who dont have an answer and the other cant stay awake long enough....any criticisim of units is welcome...its better than no answer.

Convertible

I think the Convertible was a good machine. To me, the only down side was that they tended to leak dust where the bag assembly connects to the machine. They could have used some type of gasket rather than a bead of silicone.

In addition....

IMHO, the Type C bottom-fill bag was a terrible system. If you're not careful changing the bag, the dust goes all over the place. Also, when the bag gets to 1/4-1/2 full, the vacuum has to "fight" the dust it already vacuumed up. Why they kept that design for so long is a mystery. Eureka got it right early on with their F&G bag. I use one in my Hoover model 61, and like the way it works much better.

Oh yes!

Forgot about the infamous Type C bag system!!! When did Hoover switch to the Type A bag design?

I believe it was around 1978, with the introduction of the Concept 1. Up until that point, the Dial-A-Matic (Type D) bag was better by leaps and bounds!

1978 in the Concept and in TOL Convertibles
