Thanks for the great Picture of the Day! Love the solid, proud, mature "feel" of the typeface they used for the word "Eureka" in those days.

But, alas, the Eureka Williams Company I loved so much is no longer. They have dumbed down the proud name so badly, the latest encarnation of their brand "look" makes the company appear like it makes toys for Fisher Price! Take a look at the new typeface for Eureka here: www.eureka.com...

It's embarassing.....it looks like the title for a children's show on PBS......oy!

I know, sad isn't it

But I do like the green sofa in the one picture, similar but not as much as my original 50's one. And mine comes with a better vacuum LOL

How did you train your doggie to vacuum?

That Kirby isn't even self-propelled!

She (or he) really did a nice job of winding up the cord, by the way.....

Well if you look closely at his eyes you'll see that he's really standing up to take the little piece of cheese that is sitting atop the Kirby handle.

It's one of the many tricks I've used over the years in all the films I've made for Hollywood involving dogs.. Old Yeller, Benji, 101 Dalmations.

Similar tricks were used in Helen Lawson pictures but instead of cheese it was Bombay Gin LOL

LOL!

I don't about you, but I never needed a piece of cheese to get me to play with a vacuum cleaner....as much as I like cheese!

Have a great day, Pete!

Pete, my dog Stallone isn't as handy with the vacuum as your dog,too short to reach the handle. He is quite handy with the shopping though.

What Detail !

Pete, That is one beautiful room! You have such a wonderful eye for detail and great taste also. My question is, did you get your "Poopie" because he/she matched your Legend, or your Legend because it matched your "Poopie"? Russ

No I didn't get the vac to match Ben, he got a white Mercedes with black interior. LOL

Now that picture of little Stallone and his bottle of gin is priceless. Plus it's very uncanny as well looking at his glazed eyes, the gin and all. Take a look here at this unretouched publicity photo of Ms. Helen Lawson and her gin. How's that for a glazed over eye, just the one eye mind you, the other ones made of glass but that a sad story for another day. And no it didn't have anything to do with the little accident that happened during her "affair" with Herve Villechaize under the stage of the Fantasy Island set.

I forgot to mention when mentioning about that little accident with little Herve.. it was not a Eureka moment for him and he passed away not longer after I believe.

I agree... the new Eureka emblem is awful. But, their machines also look like Fisher Price toys (and no doubt last as long and clean as well as their Fisher Price counterparts), so at least the log matches now.

I kind of thought of that, Mr. Vacuumfreeke......

Some of the new Eureka vacs look like plastic toys! So the new logo seems to match.

I guess that classy, solid Eureka heritage has now passed into the orange Electrolux line. I could imagine the old Eureka "E" and "Name in Box" on the Electrolux Oxygen Upright.....
