I have not made a thread in forever, so here we are. Dirt Devil has been killing it recently. This new era reminds me of 2012, because of the big logos, and them making products that they have not made since 2012. They also started making wet/dry vacuums again.

Dirt Devil was supposed to be retired along with Royal but from my understanding TTI had decided to keep Dirt Devil as their budget brand while Hoover being mid tier and Oreck as their top of the line. It's nice to see Dirt Devil re-enter the market with their wet/dry vacs, shampooers, and pressure washers again. But I'm certain they're not made as well as they used to be. My Dirt Devil wet/dry vac was made in the USA and I can easily service the motor, the pressure washers had more power and stored easier, and the Platinum Force shampooer was the best overall carpet cleaner for the money in my opinion. The only Dirt Devils I'd ever buy or would recommend today would be their bagged central vacs. They are the last Dirt Devils to be made in the USA except for their CV1500 model which is used for RVs.

I didn't know that Dirt Devil was going to be retired along with Royal. There was a chance that I wouldn't have grown up with Dirt Devil (well, it depends when Royal was retired. My peak interest in vacuums was in 2012-2013 when I was 5-6). I think it is nice to see Dirt Devil re-enter the market again too. What you were saying about being certain that they were not good quality, though, I just want to say that there is hope because Intellitech Studios, who has been a vacuum cleaner repairman for a while has said that these new Dirt Devil uprights have been the best quality machines that Dirt Devil has put out in a while.

Royal was history about 7-8 years ago. I was at a local Target just recently and have seen the newest Dirt Devil uprights, not impressed. Plastic rollers, cheap quality, no HEPA filtration, etc. Again, the ONLY Dirt Devil I'd ever get today would be a bagged central vac because it's night and day in comparison. I could write several paragraphs explaining why but to sum it up, you basically get what what you're paying for. They're the closest thing to what a Royal was like in terms of quality, reliability, and performance back in the day. The newest Dirt Devils can work for what they are but the Dirt Devil brand wasn't really focused on making premium vacuum cleaners in the first place, they were created as offering the budget Royal and it worked. In fact, Dirt Devil ended up being more popular than Royal. So just because they were more popular doesn't mean that they were better vacuums overall, Royal was always the top. That's why I liked Royal more than Dirt Devil and would've glady paid extra for a Royal at a vacuum store than buying a Dirt Devil at a department store. Otherwise if I really wanted a decent enough Dirt Devil today that wasn't a central vac, that ship unfortunately had sailed a long time ago and won't ever return back to shore. I think the more decent Dirt Devils you could've gotten back in the day were the ones that was made by Royal before TTI bought them out. Otherwise if those were still being made today, they would've costed double if not triple the price. TTI has to keep them at a certain price point and that's why I don't ever see them improve.

Oh man

Well, that all makes sense. If only we could have budget vacuums that were good quality. I heard that the Bissell Powerforce bagged from Walmart was one of the last good budget vacuums.

Dirt Devil actually went bankrupt during COVID and got put up for the chopping block. The employees resented this and did everything they could to make sure the company stayed intact, not moved to china, and they all got to keep their jobs in the same location. Guess what? It worked.

The new bidder was the owner of Hyper Tough which makes Walmart's in-house tool brand of the same name and although the owner is a Chinese company, they do nothing but supply the money. Shop Vac works entirely as their own entity, just as they did before, just another business gives them their funds now.

All those new vacuums are actually obsolete retired molds from other makers that have been put out to pasture. The shampooer is the Hoover Powerdash Pet and the shop vacs are Hyper Tough brand models. That electric pressure washer might be a Ryobi.

Where did you hear that Dirt Devil went bankrupt during covid? That doesn't make any sense to me because Dirt Devil has just been a brand since 2003, they're no longer a company today just like Hoover and Oreck. Those two went bankrupt and they got bought by TTI. If Dirt Devil went bankrupt, that would mean it's parent company TTI would've went bankrupt as well during covid but nowhere have I found especially when I was working at the vacuum store has been the case. Not to mention that H-P Products, the makers of Vacuflo in Louisville Ohio, has the naming rights for Dirt Devil central vacs and they're not going anywhere anytime soon from what they've told me. You're correct that the wet/dry vacs are basically Hyper Tough and the pressure washer is basically a Ryobi. But both brands are under license by TTI. They did away with Royal before covid because their sales were on a decline. However, that didn't affect the company much because alot of their stuff were made in China anyways just like Dirt Devil.

Regarding budget vacs. There's honestly not a single vacuum that I'd buy from a department store today, not even a Bissell Powerforce bagged. While they all work for what they are including my favorite brand Kenmore, none would last me for a while. Those other ships have sailed a while ago as well. If I wanted a budget vacuum today, I'd myself get a commercial Oreck or Sanitaire. They're old school vacuums with parts that are super easy and dirt cheap to fix up. Or I'd go to a thrift store and buy myself a Kirby or other used high quality vacuums for dirt cheap.
