Same thing with  my Electrolux  discovery  2   20$  a bag a filter and  shes ready to  go  now i need fix the bag door on mine  it came appart  .

Most electroluxes have rocker switches, but mine has a slider switch. Is mine a later or newer model? I went to ebay Canada and most of them are slider switches, so is mine a Canadian model?????

The slider switch was the original design and was used from 1986 till 1991

If I remember the slider switch on the Electrolux Epic series uprights was a rare option that was only used for a year. It makes me wonder if they were using recycled chassis from this model.

Electrolux Special Editions

 The Discovery II was 1986.The Special Editions came later and were for home shows and Sams Club sales.In addition to the upright there was the standard plastic body tank with Power Nozzle and the 3 brush shampooer from Canada(which was troublesome).This was one of the most attractive color styles.The original handle had fold out cord hooks that were easily broken and the slide switch had round clear 'windows' to indicate 3 positions.Later improved handle had the rectangular 'windows' seen above.This is a great clean air,self adjusting upright with 2 motors,gear belt at side,reset button,self sealing 4 ply bags and more.

The Model 1572E was sold from 1987 to c.1992 through different sources and with upgrades—including door-to-door, premium store, catalog, warehouse club & show—in different color schemes and model names besides your Special Edition, including:

-Discovery II in light sand gray & jade like other Electrolux USA/Canada cleaners made from 1986-87 (earlier successive model numbers were 1500 & 1500C reflecting upgrades)
-Discovery Plus same as the II with onboard attachment caddy
-Discovery III in light sand gray & taupe like other Electrolux USA/Canada cleaners made from 1987-88 (with hose cord port for Sidekick
-Discovery Advantage in light sand gray & navy like other Electrolux USA/Canada cleaners made from 1988-95 with 8.5A motor
-Regency Series in light sand gray & regatta blue (same cleaner line as the Special Editions until later when one new model tank was offered instead of the previous two)

Incidentally, I'm thinking that there was initially a limited production of a "Discovery Model 1572", because of the "II" and the "E" suffix in the model number, which Electrolux used to indicate 'enhanced'.

The Special Edition, if I recall, was part of the show line for trade shows & fairs. It underwent several changes over the course of its run from c.1988 to c.1992, including the nozzle base (akin to pn 6B or 7B)—yours is the 6B, 8.1A or 8.5A (HP) motors, ponytail-mount cord attachment in handle grip or rear handle attachment, and the slide or rocker switches. As far as I know no version was equipped with a bag capacity indicator on the top like the others. This allowed for a lower price point (there may also have been other reasons for this such as a 20-ft. cord versus a 25-ft. cord). The original handles were burgundy like yours. Replacements, either due to the recall of the ponytail connection or other reason, were light gray. Also, does yours have a red reset button on the back? I don't think the early 1572Es did.

Beyond the usual vacuum cleaner maintenance, special considerations for Electrolux L-shaped uprights are to check the accordion duct for cracks and to lubricate the wheel shaft and detents (vertical hold clips).

Longtime Electrolux salesman, John Anderson (tig21er) posted the Special Edition brochure in thread 23578. The only cleaner of the line not shown is the Model 1623 non-automatic tank.

I've never seen that version. Love the color combo. The slider switches are definitely earlier than the rocker switches. My Discovery II, Discovery Plus, and Genesis LXe all have/had the slider switches, while my Epic 3500SR has a rocker switch. The Genesis got retrofitted with a rocker switch when I took it in for a factory recall, which I now regret, as the rocker switch doesn't work correctly. The only way to get it into straight suction mode is to fire it up in brush roll mode, then move back a notch to straight suction. The original slider switch did not behave that way.

I got the Epic at Goodwill for $3. Someone had put it out on the floor without a price tag, and when I inquired about it, the manager, without even looking at her pricing gun, slapped a random tag on it, then read it and told me "three dollars". Needless to say, I bought the thing before she could change her mind.

LOL, Scott! Yeah, it's difficult to nail down exact Electrolux USA production periods. Electrolux Canada had begun its serial numbers with the last digit of the production year but then adopted Electrolux USA's alphanumeric format when the two companies merged in 1985. I think 1988 is a good guess.

I hope one day someone will locate and post a shipping record as I've seen for Hoover and Eureka! According to Jimmy (rugsucker) the lists were used, in part, to guide the rotation of stock to ensure that the older would be sold before the newer. It seems that when the corporate offices were relocated many of its records and other items were discarded.

The electronic record-keeping system now only indicates the original sale of a cleaner; not necessarily when it was produced. So, in theory, one could have been made at the end of one year and not sold until the beginning of the next. You could contact an Aerus store to see if your serial number is still in its system, which began sometime in the early 1980s.

Hey Paul - The reason the Special Edition LE wasnt on the brochure was that it wasn't available through the stores. The ones on the brochure were mall show specials for the stores which had to be special ordered and were drop shipped direct to the customer. The Special edition LE was made for sale through specific special offers like Esso points, Club Z (Zellers) and Sams Club catalogs.

Weren't these the same models that were also sold through Sears for a limited time? I've heard from someone on here, don't remember who, that Sears had sold Electrolux at one point. I'm curious if these are the ones or not.

Scott, Thanks for the photos and other details you provide in your posts. Each is an asset to VL's searchable info.!

Unfortunately, only an Aerus dealer would be able to look up its serial numbers. I have heard of no one else having access to Aerus's electronic system or the older hard copies of shipping records. Maybe someday someone will come across an old hard copy and post it, like a guy did a few years ago with one from The Eureka Williams Corporation.

I did want to mention that back in the day—and maybe even now—Electrolux USA/Aerus LLC-Electrolux (Canada) Ltd. /Aerus Canda, Inc. included a second serial number decal under the handle in case the accessible one was removed or damaged. I can also tell you that the letter series have been reused over the years to some degree; for most models the first letter typically remained the same during the entire production while the second changed after the digits turned over. The format dates back to 1937 with the launch of the Model XXX. Due to its 14-year run (excluding the WWII years), the first letter also changed. There may be other exceptions, too.
