You can see

There's still moulding to finish at the baseboard.

John

Were you able to line the staircase with vacuums as in years past? I've nicknamed your entrance the "Stairway to Hoover." Billy

as have I.  But, yes, actually,  Will came for New Years.  I lined that 'staircase'.  I'll show pics.  It's still 'set up'.

I remember an episode of All In The Family where Gloria is complaining about how cheap Archie is in buying gifts for her mom Edith: “Maybe you could get her one of those powerful canister vacuums that are so great for picking up pine needles?” 🤣

(Happy New Year, John!)

Whenever I remember Gloria’s words during the Christmas season, it always triggers an image of a dust bag punctured by 100’s of pine needles sucked up by a vacuum! Those needles can’t be safe for a regular domestic vac…maybe a bagless shop vac?

(In my Jewish world, our challenge is simpler: vacuuming up matza crumbs off the carpet during the week of Passover!!!!)

Hey Brian.
I do have to say; one of the Electroluxes that I rescued from the curb looked like someone had used it to vacuum their yard. The bag was so beyond packed with not only pine needles, but even small twigs and such, that it was actually backed up into the hose.
In spite of all that, I don't believe that any of it had punctured the bag!
I was fully expecting the bag compartment to be a total disaster, and it wasn't.
And, back when we still used to get real trees, we never had a problem with the needles. Our vacuum (and bag) handled them with ease!
Matzo crumbs made me laugh, though. We're not Jewish, but my mom loves those! The matzo...not the crumbs. 🙂

Hi Barry!!!! That’s good to know that pine needles from Christmas trees do not puncture vacuum bags!!!! It’s amazing how many old vintage Christmas ads for vacuums show the trees right next to the shiny, new, unpacked vacuum!

I actually used to love using our Eureka uprights to vacuum our carpeting in the dining room during Passover!!! The matza crumbs were all over the place and the Eurekas did a great job making the crumbs “dance” before disappearing under the motor head!!!!! 😂😂😂

Nice 68, John!

I made the mistake of using my Electrolux Model R once to vacuum up Christmas tree pine needles and plugged the hose pretty bad. The prescribed way of removing clogs by connecting the hose to the exhaust port was unsuccessful as was my attempt to dislodge it with a long wooden dowel, so I later took it to my service garage and asked a tech to blow it out with his air compressor and voila—the ball of debris shot right out!

Here you are, Brian; S2 E13 of ALL IN THE FAMILY (original air date December 18, 1971):

Some episode photos ... the first is of Gloria and Mike telling Archie about the vacuum cleaner.

Tree needle clogs

Hi all, as a kid I became frantic when tree needles would clog the hose of our E'lux model E. My parents ran theirs without the after filter, so all the upper harmonics of the motor were clearly audible and sent me into hysterics. Fortunately placing the hose into the blower port always worked. We never had this problem once I talked my parents into getting white pines. They had no scent to speak of, but they held their needles.

Yeah, perfect pitch will to that to ya.

Joel

Ahhh... the smell of pine

I like the way pine needles leave a scent in the cleaner post holiday cleanup. Home maid odorific! Although later, when it's time to replace the bag I'm over it until next holiday! As it is I'll be finding stray pine needles through April at least.

Looks like the Hoover did a great job, John. :)

I have an artificial tree myself, rubber, but it's getting so old now the rubber needles are breaking off, and it makes a mess just like a real tree! How about that? lol I think it must have been one of the first rubber made ones (got it in 2012).

I have a pine tree in my back yard so I know all about the pain from stepping on stray needles, so gotta have a nice vacuum to get every last one of those little buggers, thats for sure
