It is with great sadness for me to let everyone know that Fred Nelson passed away yesterday at the very young age of 71. Fred had lived in St. Charles, IL and about 8 years ago retired and moved to Palm Springs, CA. Fred was the original webmaster of Vacuumland when we launched in 2007 and was known here by "compactelectra". It was Fred along with Charlie W. who originally approached me about creating Vacuumland back in the autumn of 2005.

I along with several others are simply heart broken over this terrible news but I felt it is important to let everyone know.

We love you very much Fred and you will be missed terribly.

I don't remember the subject matter, but I was just recently reading one of his old posts.
Thank you, Fred. May you rest in peace.

So sorry to hear this. I remember meeting and visiting with Fred during the 2008 Convention in North Canton, and the wealth of information he shared here in his posts. He certainly did a lot for Vacuumland and VCCC, and will be missed.

Very sad...too young.

I always enjoyed talking central vacs with Fred...he was a fellow CV fan and would tell the story of retrofitting his first system (Filtex) in Chicago in the early 1970s, then having MD systems installed in subsequent homes in LA, St. Charles, and Palm Springs.

Weirdly, I was just working a few houses down from his old place ("The Tarantula Arms" as they called it) earlier in the week, and thought of sending an email to say hello.

Rest in peace, Fred.

Oh no!

This is awful, last time I heard he was doing well and enjoying his life.

Fred was such a humble man! He did a lot for the club! I will never forget our times in St. Charles and in Florida with Terry Latz.

He was a gentle soul. I had some good times when he came to visit. Some nice memories and fun times.

RIP Fred. I loved visiting Tarantula Arms and the amazing meals. He was a great guy. I have one of 'new in box' vacuums (the first Electrolux upright) in my collection. I'll always think of him when I see the machine. 71 was too damn young.

My knowledge has increased and my vision impressed in more than one of Fred Nelson's VL postings. Even though I never met him, I appreciate his contributions to the treasure trove of trivia on this site.

Godspeed to our dear, gentle and loving Fred. Words can't express the depth of heartbreak and sorrow.

I hope wherever he is, Dan Pontow is playing the piano, Terry Lattz is cleaning and Fred is enjoying his favorite white wine.

Oh wow, what a shock. I've remembered seeing his posts a lot from digging around in the archives, and I think maybe recently he was posting too.

Oh yeah I remember now I talked to him a few years ago I believe about the Electrolux Model G. He knew a lot about that model.

Sorry to hear about his passing.

Too soon

I spent a lot of time on this site some years ago. He always had nice things to add to various threads. His wealth of knowledge and kindness will surely be missed.
