Hey all, I recently serviced the motor in my beautiful Rainbow D4 SE, and it was a success! But, it seems like even after cleaning the fans, it doesn't have nearly as much power as the D4C I sold awhile back. I have a working theory that the old style spider is choking off airflow, and before I track down the new style, is this a contributing factor? The D4C I had had the new style and you could really hear the 'whoosh' when it was running. Separator is clean, and the seals are all still good. I seem to be getting conflicting answers and I just want to know if my crack pot theory has any significance 😂

Well it looks like

I answered my own question 😂 it was time to retire my D3C and lucky me it had the spider I was looking for. Unfortunately I did have to drill two of the screws out of the flange on the D4 to get the old spider out, but rust is a thing. Got everything put back together on the D4 special edition and now I am just waiting for the glue to dry. Sounds like it's moving a little bit more air now, so mission accomplished I suppose 😆 anybody need parts for a D3C?

I made the mistake of testing a D4 motor that I took apart and cleaned recently without the spider. I ended up damaging the top fan. I was able to order a new generic fan and it runs fine. I've learned my lesson.

Oh no!

I couldn't manage to get that stage out that sits right under the armature, the one that looks like it twists on. So I think that bearing is still noisy but doesn't seem to be putting drag on the motor. It sounds almost healthy when it's running so I'm not stressing 😂 but now after having to drill out 2 screws and gluing the gasket back on with E6000, that motor isn't ever being serviced again, and it'll only come out if I stumble across a brand new one 🤣

As for the D3C, I put it back together with the cupped spider and it's the happiest it's ever been! It's moving so much airflow now... Almost like that third fan works better with that design. Maybe its just me but we're gonna test it with water in the 4qt basin to see if it really gets the water moving. At any rate, I'm pleased that I have 2 working classics! Next up is buying a gold E Series next week, bring on another project 😂😂🥴
