Hi all,
I'm looking for a little advice on what could be wrong with a family member's nearly new vacuum. I know, it's a fairly inexpensive, big box store vacuum. I know, it's a Bissell. All that considered, and whether or not folks like this type of vacuum, it should still work. It's only three or four months old. But, apparently, it has started leaving wads of carpet floof and hair on the carpet, which they then have to suck up with the hose. I haven't seen it in person yet, but they have asked if I might be able to see if I can figure out what's wrong. It sounds like a suction issue, right? But, apparently, there's still suction at the hose. One of the things I don't like about bagless vacuums is the added maintenance with filters and such. When I asked a few preliminary questions, I get the feeling this individual has never done any routine maintenance; just empties the canister. So, right off the bat, I'm thinking clogged filters. Could that cause this problem? Also, I've read reviews of this vacuum, where people say the brushroll gets jammed up pretty easily, and the belt basically melts. So, I'll check that. Since I know so little about bagless machines, I'd welcome any constructive advice. My goal is to get their vacuum working properly again for them, if I can. Once again, it's a basically brand new Bissell CleanView Rewind, Model 3676. Thank you! Barry |

Sounds like either the bottom hose is clogged, the belt needs to be replaced, or the brushroll is dirty.

Well, it looks like we have a winner!
I just lent her one of my vacuums, and brought hers home to check it out. First thing I did was remove the bottom cover to check the belt and brushroll. Both seemed fine. The brushroll spins very freely, and the belt looks good. I was, however, struck by the amount of dust that was built up in nearly every nook and cranny on the underside of the machine. Removing the brushroll revealed the tip of the iceberg. The opening to the bottom hose, or foot hose, had solid packed hair and dust sticking out of it. Disconnecting the other end of the bottom hose revealed lots of pieces of torn up cardboard. It looks like that initiated the clog, then the rest of the hose just packed itself tight with all the finer debris. Just for good measure, I washed the one and only filter. And I have the bottom guard and the cyclone or whatever it's called, soaking in some warm water with Tide. The canister itself and the brushroll, I'm going to clean by hand. I wasn't sure if they should be submerged in water, due to bearings and metal pieces. Thank you for the advice! |
