My latest vacuum is all done except for rewiring the motor and possibly installing new brushes. I can't get the fan off. I removed the reverse thread nut and have a shaft with a flat end. How does this come off ? I did apply Kroil to the area where the fan meets the shaft. I'm afraid of damaging the fan blades. The casing overlaps the fan so there is no surface area to grab on to.

Is this a GE/Premier?

When I rebuilt my Westinghouse Upright, I vaguely remember having a set screw on the side of the fan. If you have a flat side, that would be my assumption.

If this is a GE product which it appears to be, grip the flat part of the rotor with vice grips(not the threads!) and spin the fan to the right while holding the vice grips still, the same way you undid the nut. May take some doing but it should come off that way.
