Kmart's Model 228

Prior to the 600-Series in 1969, Kmart advertised the Eureka Model 228 (Type A—sans tools & Type AT—with tools) along with the 500-BPZ canister. I would venture a guess that both were exclusive models to the chain store.

1. 1969 Mar 11 TELEGRAPH-HERALD - Model-Types 228-AT & 500-BPZ

2. 1969 Aug 29 TELEGRAPH-HERALD Kmart ad - Model-Types 500-BPZ & 228-A

3. Online photo of the Model 228

Wow, that's a big list! My knowledge of that era is quite limited. Would be cool to find pamphlets of all the machines and learn what color, features pertained to various models.

Very Interesting.

I live in Dubuque Iowa and the Telegraph Herald is our Local Newspaper. Hoover was not as popular in our area as Eureka.

We saw mainly, Kirby, Electrolux, Eureka, Airway, Kenmore and Filter Queen.

I remember very well the Eureka Vacuum displays at our Kmart.

I have a model Eureka very similar to the one pictured. Off hand I don't know the model number but it has the original distribulator brush roll. Multiple rows of brushes no beater bar. It cleans like a dream.

That picture of the model 228 looks like my 2010, but without the Dial-A-Nap.
