It seems like the more sense I try to make of Eureka model numbers, the less sense they make. For instance, in the Eureka Automatic range, I found an ad for a machine called the 228-A (7/17/1969) along with one for the 238-D (7/10/1969). Then, it looks like in the 1400 series, there is little rhyme/reason behind the numbers. I'm thinking the 200 series may be similar. Does anyone have any 200 series uprights with sale dates?

What I can tell almost definitively so far:

07/18/65 ****** 238-A
11/05/67 ****** 238-D
01/24/71 ****** 238-F

From what I can tell, the 238-K (12/15/68) indicates a chrome hood (all the models advertised with chrome seem to have a K in the model name).

Hi Nick,

Check out the "Color-Pak" list I posted in May in replies 16, 17, and 18:

I haven't found any recurring patterns in Eureka’s overall model numbering, but some F & G bag color lines did use higher numbers for top tier models and lower numbers for low tier models in the 200 and 2000 Series. The 1400, 1900, and 4000 F & G Series seem more random.

I noticed, too, that Type K denoted the chrome hood version in the 200 Series. I'm thinking other lettered Types also had meaning, such as A - first run; B - first change or upgrade; and double letters stood for special sales lines such as the "Imperial"s.

From what I can tell, the Eureka Imperial seems to have only been sold at branches of Allied Stores.

Eureka Imperials

These were sold at other stores, too, albeit only some of the advertisements I found include their names.
