Here is my Hoover Futura from September 1996. This is pretty much just a red version of a Hoover dimension that’s a lower end model. How it’s a lower end model is because the cord is not 30 feet, and the name “Futura” are put on machines that aren’t the highest end. I brought this machine on eBay from someone with a YouTube channelnamed FanOfVacuums2 for only $80 dollars. It was refurbished by him. He did a good job restoring it, but forgot to do one important detail which I’ll get into later. This machine is a monster when it comes to airflow. Like holly molly does this thing ever just deep clean your carpets! The agitation is very aggressive mainly because Maytag kept using the serviceable brushrollers which I like the best. The tools are handy. I love how they store the attachments on top with a clean cover. Plus, just having to set the height selector to tools is a high end touch. Hoover was known for adding all sorts of details on their machine back in the day. Yeah the tool suction isn’t the highest compared to a bypass machine, but it actually gets the job done pretty well in my opinion. The filtration set up on this machine is just a bag doing all of the job. The microfiltration claim they have on the bag door means that the bag they use in this machine is the 2 layered micro bag instead of the green 1 layer bag. Obviously a hepa bag is the right way to go to get the max filtration on any direct air machine. You still get carbon dust, but that doesn’t bother me. The stair carrying handle is a nice feature on these elites. How on earth Hoover said this machine could be used on hard wood floors is beyond me. The seller forgot to do one important step with these machines now being in their 30s, and that is either replacing the motor bearings or greasing them. After awhile I notice the machine was starting to make a grinding noise, which was the bearings. They were bone dry. I should’ve just greased them. After using it more the noise went away. Out of no where the fan decided to self destruct on me. Bearings with no grease can cause vibration to the fan, which I learned afterwards.I had an extra new old stock 20 bladed fan. It worked again. Later I wanted to play it safe and install a refurbished 12 amp motor I did with new bearings. It’s now even more powerful, like this is all the airflow and suction you could ever ask for in a direct air machine. I know these style Hoover’s are popular on vacuum land and might as well just show mine off for you people to see. Here is the link to the machine running before it got sold to me

Great find. They are a nice vac. I'm on the lookout for the navy blue Futura upright which had a T shaped Elite style hood.... agitator cavity stuck out from main body on each side.

Yah all these 90's Hoovers are all well past their useful life for grease and oil and need it changed accordingly. Axle grease turns into tar the older it gets (and the dirtier it gets) and it's not good for the motor. Nice job on your find, it looks in good shape!
