I think more companies should do this to improve the suction and airflow

Here is a motor on my bagged Bissell lift off. As you can see, the motor is actually not sitting on its side. It is instead sitting vertical. I find this that it improves not only the suction, but also the airflow of the machine. I’m not sure if Bissell was the only one that did this? Most bypass vacuums I’ve seen has the motor sitting sideways. Also since this is a bagged vacuum, there is zero dust in the motor. I have newer style Hoover’s, and even with me cleaning the filters, dust still gets by. Not only to mention that as you have to clean the filter regularly on any bagless machine, it wears out the filter. Also since it is an Ametek motor, I probably could find new carbon brushes easily when I need to, but this is only 9 months worth of use on the machine. And yes, this was brought new old stock. Sadly with the Maytag Hoover’s, TTI discontinued the special carbon brushes. It would be nice if someone would know if you could just size up a carbon brush and soldier it on the holder since that would definitely help tons of people. I’ve never really seen a motor go bad unless if it’s plugged up with junk, or if you keep using it until the brushes completely wear out.

Alot of dual motor uprights today are using motors that are facing vertical. Even bagless models.

Basically, every tub vacuum like Numatics or the Lindhaus HF6 have motors that sit horizontally. All the F&G machines also have their motors oriented in that way. Ive heard it described like having a boxer engine in a car.
