Electrolux canisters of that era are tough to beat. Truly my favorite canisters. I don't have an Olympia One, but I have several others—1205 (2), Super J, Silverado Deluxe, Diamond J. That vinyl hose is a definite performance enhancer over the leaky woven ones. I have a relatively early 1205 that my dad picked up off a neighbor's trash pile when I was in high school. I was surprised to find it in their attic when they were packing up to move to a senior living community in 2016. I brought it home, stuck a vinyl hose I had onto it, and possibly for the first time in its existence, connected it up to a power nozzle, thus unleashing its true power. I had originally thought to keep it as a potential parts donor for my other 1205, but I ended up replacing the broken handle and adding it to the operational fleet.

Best bags to use

Per Tom G.'s prior endorsement, I highly recommend the Clean Obsessed HEPA type C bags for this vacuum. I use them in all of my vintage E'lux vacs that will take them. IMHO they are far superior to paper bags. They filter better and can be filled to capacity without losing a noticeable amount of suction. A big plus benefit is that far less dirt will get into your vac's motor, leading to better performance and longer life. For decades I was a genuine bag user, but I find the Clean Obsessed bags to be much better.

Best,

Joel

I don't know whether a SideKick came with the Olympia One or was available as an add-on from Electrolux at the time, but you can certainly add one. It plugs directly into the powered hose. I got my first SideKick to use with my 1205, which predated the SideKick by several years.

The Sidekick was originally offered with the Marquise in either 1987 or 1988. I don’t know which year for sure, but it was also available separately for any model using the direct connect hose handle.

As far as I'm concerned, a SideKick is a must-have accessory for any Electrolux vacuum. Being motor driven, it is far superior to any turbo brush.

Oh  for sure    turbo  brush  don't   work  good  slows  down  choke the vacuum in my opinion  motor  driven  brush i s  far superior .

There’s usually Plenty of Sidekicks on eBay

And if you still have your Discovery upright, you might be able to use a Sidekick with it. You’ll need an electric hose AND it depends on which model you have. Not all of the uprights have a 2 prong outlet in the back.

I  have a  question for yall  here  pardon me if  some one ask already  :,

but  do i  need  a  pre motor  filter for my  olympia one  or good with just   the  bag  and  no exhaust  filter  also  ,   first time owning a  1401.  I do  use  4  ply  bags

As  my  zb 89 had exhaust filter thanks  .

That’s the difference with the Canadian models….

There’s no way to use an after filter on an Oly One. Electrolux didn’t make models with after filters for the U.S. until the plastic bodied tank was available in 1985. Can’t remember for sure, I want to say that it was called the 2100.

Discovery and SideKick

human's profile picture
The Discovery II and Discovery III did not come factory equipped with a power outlet for the SideKick, but there's an adapter kit that came out for the Discovery III that will also work with the Discovery II to add the necessary connection. I put one on my Discovery II. It's a pretty easy install. The adapter is a trapezoidal piece that fits where the wall cord plugs into the vacuum, and provides connections for both the wall cord and the cord for the SideKick, which is also included in the kit, along with a metal-tipped hose handle to replace the all-plastic one that would have come with the hose, and a set of straps to attach the cord to the hose. The adapter has a switch that turns the SideKick's side of the adapter on and off. It can get kind of confusing if the Sidekick you're using also has an on/off switch. I'm not sure whether they're still available through Aerus dealers, but they show up every now and then on eBay.
