Beaumark (Hudson's Bay store) floor vacuum. It has stronger suction than my Miele floor vacuum!
I like the colour combination. The bag however has me stumped! I can't find a square opening bag that looks like it may fit on the web... I'm wondering if one of our European friends may know who the maker is and that may provide a clue for a bag... | ||

Hi Funvacfan,
That’s made by Progress of Germany. Sweden’s Electrolux company owned Progress in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and so they brought over some models to Canada through its Eureka facilities in Kitchener Ontario. Eureka was already making Beaumark vacs for The Bay, and so The Bay tried out some German made Progress models… there was also a Beaumark power team canister made by Progress sold at The Bay. I’ll post a link to a great website that shows the original vacuums…maybe you can use that info to order bags from Germany. | ||

Here’s someone’s website devoted to old Progress vacs. The link below will take you to the stick vac history page…click on any of the “Minor” models from the 1970’s and you’ll see your Beaumark.

Guy, that is a neat stick vacuum! Does it have a powerhead receptacle like Miele did on their later stick vacs?
Since you can't easily find the bags in North America or find someone to ship the Progress bags over from Europe, I think you have the perfect excuse to jury-rig it to take another brand's bags. In this case, since it's a stick vacuum, I would convert it to use Miele KK bags that they used for the stick vacuum. What you would need to do is extend the bag fill tube slightly with a short piece from another wand cut to size. Then wrap it with red Tuck Tape so the Miele KK bag will fit snugly. The nice benefit of doing this conversion would be that the Miele KK bag being made of HEPA Cloth material would provide modern filtration while using the machine, and there are also generic versions of that bag too if you look hard enough. I had to convert my Hoover Dimension canister the same way as I outlined above to use Kenmore Q HEPA Cloth bags, as I wouldn't live with the single layer paper bags in that machine, and it worked out very well. | ||
