Hello folks. I just received an Aerus 80th Anniversary Ultralux vacuum. The power nozzle remains on when the vacuum is turned off, and must be manually turned off at the base. I've never run into that before. My other Electrolux and Aerus power nozzles operate with the vacuum. Has anyone else run into this? Not a big deal, but curious and a little annoying. Thanks.

If I recall correctly, your model is designed to do that. I think the powerhead was designed to scrub in carpet cleaning powder as well as deep clean carpets.

I have an 80th myself as well. The power nozzle is not supposed to run after shut-ff. The power nozzle receptacle has two wires and both are connected to the cord leads. Just take the machine apart and correct that one mis-connected wire. The receptacle is wired with the motor so both are energized and de-energized at the same time.

Sounds like you've got a couple of wires crossed. I did that accidentally on an Electrolux Silverado a few years ago. The power nozzle would come on when the vacuum was off and vice-versa. Seems I plugged two of the wires connecting to the cord winder into the wrong spots when I was putting it back together. It worked normally after I reversed them.

I have to agree with Rob on this one. I had an ultralux 80th that was sold thru QVC. It had two PNs. One for regular use and one for carpet cleaning powder. The power nozzle ran it by itself. When the canister was plugged in. You can probably open it up and put the lead from the pn on the switch.

If

The power wire for the power nozzle isn't connected to the power switch it would stay on. I'd bet money that's exactly what is happening.

You open up the vacuum connect the power supply of the power nozzle to the switch it will solve the problem.

If yhe poster listened and said it's fixed I wouldn't. I'm not rambling on giving examples of the problem. I'm simply stating how to fix it.
I don't see the poster posting the problem is fixed.

It's a great observation but I've had this same situation on .......

Right but Tom, Edgar and myself. Said the same thing about the pn wire not being connected to the switch. You are simply restating what has already been said.

And was it necessarily a problem if the canister was manufactured that way? Maybe my reading comprehension is bad. But I think the poster was asking if anyone else has encountered the same problem.

A forum where you ask questions. The posters in here don't always connect the dots. If I posted s video and evidence and show empathy for the poster would that help?
I told them how to fix it. You can view it how u want but not everyone on here is mechanically inclined. You view the post as him needing empathy and I view it as someone needing to know how to fix a problem .
Agree to disagree it's a power nozzle.

Dri Lux

I actually have a NOS Dri Lux with 2 unopened containers of capture. I believe the owners manual is with it too. It’s boxed up and ready to ship if anyone has any interest in it.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hello everyone. Thank you all for the posts and information. I appreciate your input and always learn something when I ask a question.

I'm not good with tools and repairs, unfortunately. I rely on a really great vac guy here in Phoenix to repair and keep my vintage machines running well.

I find the power nozzle issue isn't too annoying; I did wonder if an electrical issue was the culprit, and it appears to be the case. I guess I'll live with it unless I have any additional problems.

Thank you all very much for your assistance.

Michael

Michael is yours the same blue UltraLux 80th plastic canister that I have pictured in my above posts and in my video? I want to make sure that we are talking about the same vacuum.

I apologize if it seems like I'm throwing an autistic fit over this post. I want to drive home the point that if it is the same UltraLux as pictured. It came from the factory that way.  It's not an electrical issue. Below is a post from Danrob1 back in 2012 when I asked the same question.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hi Kloveland. My Ultralux is identical to the one you pictured. It's labeled 80th Anniversary and has the electronic panel with the indicator lights (these don't work, however; I suspect the electronic part died. It happened on my Guardian Ultra, too). I've seen a picture of the Dri Clean nozzle and didn't realize what it was for. I got my Ultralux from ebay and it only has the suction nozzle. It works fine from the switch on the nozzle.

Michael, if I was you, I would leave the vacuum alone and NOT rewire it so the powerhead shuts off when you shut off the vacuum. Remember - Aerus intentionally manufactured the Ultralux this way, for a specific purpose, so that the DriLux powerhead could be used with it for dry carpet cleaning with Capture carpet cleaning powder. If you rewire the vacuum so the powerhead shuts off with the canister on/off switch, you're removing a "feature". And with it, part of what makes it "unique", and possibly a sought-after model in the future that makes it more valuable & collectible. If you ever decide to sell it, you may regret it if removing that "feature" made your cleaner less desirable to a collector, and less valuable. And you can live with it by simply shutting off the powerhead separately, not a big deal.

I would look into getting the lights fixed though. It's not electronic, it's all solid state stuff inside. The Aerus Lux Legacy is still made with the lighted control panel, chances are it's a easy fix.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hi Kirbylux77. Thank you for the advice. I agree with you and I'm not going to mess with the vacuum electrical wiring. I don't really mind turning the nozzle off at the base and I may run into a Dri Lux nozzle again at some point. I did see one on ebay a while back, but didn't know what I was looking at. I had the circuit board on my Guardian Ultra replaced (it stopped working, but the temperature light glowed) and it was $235 from my Aerus dealer. I decided to hold off on fixing the Ultralux due to the cost.

Dri Lux Nozzle

Hi Maytag142c. How much are you asking for the Dri Lux nozzle with the Capture cleaner? I hadn't heard of this until I read the replies to my question on this forum, and I'm interested in it. My email is mlt562003@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

Michael T.

Hey Michael!

I actually sold it to another collector about 2 weeks ago while he was here visiting. It now resides in Missouri.

Do you think your UltraLux was wired the way it was, because it was sold on QVC to include the Dri Lux? My UltraLux came from the Aerus store and had only the one power nozzle and was wired 'standard'.

Yes, I'm fairly certain it was to run the Dri-clean power nozzle without the suction from the canister. This is my second one of the exact same model and both would run with the canister switch off.

I'm going off of what Danorob1 said in his post. I put a link to the original post in the archives below.

Sorry for the issues, you guys are having!

durango159's profile picture
I wonder if a circuit has gone bad over time? Perhaps for the QVC version, they went cheaper on some part?

BTW, @Kloveland, despite the issue with your machine, your machine sounds fantastic in the video!! I remember watching YouTube last year before getting my Aerus and listening to tones of various models. Yours sounds great, pleasant sounding PN, that isn't screechy or obnoxious and a nice suction unit.

I hope you guys can figure out the issue.
