I have a Jazz and after months of use my HEPA filter never looked new… always grey. But still functioning like the day I got it years later. Hopefully you resolve your issue. | ||

 Couple of a times a month for 8 years isn't too much usage. The HEPA filter on the exhaust catches carbon dust from the motor. It is normal to be black/gray. If it's excessively blackened when it was not in the weeks prior at a rapid pace, and you don't think you dropped the vacuum or caused any damage to it, it would be worth a look to service the motor and put fresh grease/oil, check the armature and commutator, brushes, etc. A hot motor from worn out grease/oil can drag and cause more resistance which makes more heat and might translate to the hotter feel/smell to it. Make sure to check your belt as well and make sure the belt is good and not loose or slack. | ||
