I was recently given this Kirby 519. We converted it to use HEPA disposable bags. I know the belt lifter is incorrect, but that's OK.

We started by putting the cloth bag on a mini-emptor.

It was easy to suspend the bag adapter into the cloth bag.

A pair of 519s. Mine has the gray bag on the right, my friend Robert owns the model with the red bag on the left. Both use HEPA disposable bags. I have replaced the belt lifter on mine with the correct one. Got it off of the power polisher.

Mix-n-Match...

I just love how one can mix and match parts from pre-G Kirbys, and while the resulting 'frankenKirby' may not be exactly "right" in a purist's eyes, it doesn't necessarily look "wrong", and can add functionality not originally available at the time of a particular machine's manufacture.

I've done the same bag conversion on a Classic III and two Heritage 1HD's. The Classic III and one of the Heritages were done to eliminate disgusting shakeout bags. I just hate 'em! The other Heritage '84 was simply a matter of not having enough strength in my hands to stretch the spring at the bottom of the bag enough to reinstall the original emptor and fill tube assembly, so instead, I gutted a Heritage II bag I had for spares. The plastic H2/L2 mini emptor slides into place very easily from inside the bag, whereas the bulkier metal emptor won't go into place that way. I would still love to put the original emptor and fill tube back onto my H84, if for no other reason than to be able to use up my existing supply of Style 2 bags. Once those were used up, I'd swap out the inner bag connector at the top of the fill tube to be able to use the same modern style bags as all of my other Kirbys.

I've converted a few vacuums to hepa. I do like the way it looks and it saves the bag. I'm all for making kirbys to your liking. The frankenkirbys have a better mass appeal imo.

I tried to keep it as original as possible while improving its filtration as well as its cleaning ability by going to disposable bags. With three pups in the house it makes sense. I do use the single row brush as I find it allows beating of the rug that the double row brush does not. I also have the metal fan in mine.
