Hi David it's Liam, quick question, Do you have any spare Kirby model 505 parts like a Nozzle with the original belt lifter and bumper, a Headlight hood with the original trim and an original 505 handle grip? Do you also have a spare original Kirby 505 cord? I got a Kirby model 505 for my 18th birthday recently and amazingly, I have a factory original 505 bag in mint condition on it, as well as original 505 Bakelite wheels. However its either missing a few things or doesn't have proper original parts. It had been rebuilt by the previous owner, but I'm in the process of making it all Factory original. Additionally it still has the original tag/name plate on the bottom of the fan case.

This is my 1947 505 with NOS bag. This was at the end of the 505 run.

Jim , wow! Your 505 looks flawless good job with the restore . I love the later 505s , did you know there were 2 different manuals for the 505 ? The one on Kirby’s site is the old 505 version .

Liam I do have a few 505s but I’m holding on to them at the moment , if I do list any parts for sale I’ll make sure to post here.

David,

Thanks for the complement. Yes I did know there were two 505 manuals it was Les who first told me that. Les was also the one who told me that the first 505's did not come with the belt lifter.

Les,

I bought the 505 NOS bag on eBay for $150.00 buy it now price. I started shaking and couldn't push the button fast enough when I realized it was an original unused 505 bag. I think the only reason I was able to get it was because people thought it was one of Chicago Mike's reproduction bags that he was selling at the time for the same price. I knew the difference.

Pictured is the NOS bag next to one of Mike's bags. I'm sure if the seller knew what he had he could have gotten a lot more in an auction. You can see in the pictures how the stripes go all the way up and down into the stitching of the bag, Mike's do not. Mike's bags are also shorter than the original and are made of corduroy. The original is made of duvetyne which was another big giveaway.

Jim

That is correct when these were produced they were printed on a roll of fabric and then cut so the dashed lines didn’t really have a cut of point. they were just cut after print . I have a few unused bags and hey are all the same . Reproductions were later also made of different fabrics and print and can be easily distinguished from the originals .

Beautiful bag by the way !
