I found these old clunkers at a junk store in my town. I had always talked about going to the store but never had the time. I finally went today and found a Kirby heritage, Hoover decade 80, and a eureka powerline. My focus is to get the decade 80. I have always wanted one of these and I am not sure if I should get this. The man wanted $15 a piece and these were VERY, VERY rough. He said he would go lower if it was not worth fixing. It has lots and lots of rust. My plan is to tell him that it is not worth a lot and see what I can do to fix it. Let me know if any of the others pictures are worth anything either.

Interesting assortment...

For what it's worth, that Kirby isn't a Heritage. It's a Tradition, which marked a transition between the Classic and Heritage series. I'd offer him $10 apiece for the lot and see what he says.

I visited that guy last year(I'm from that area lol). Very grouchy. I tried to get him down on one of them as the bag zipper is stuck and he said I "went back on our deal" even though we had no deal. They were in his floorless barn when i found em and the motors in the hoover and kirby I unstuck. He also would not let me test them lol

Does that Tradition 3-CB have the metal fan and/or the top-mounted speed switch inside the headlight cap? The latter was very notorious for breaking down prematurely.

Get him talking about himself and show interest. Get to know him and that's the key.
Then say there rough and would take alot of work getting them running since this is where you bluff saying parts aren't made anymore and say $10 for everything is what I'd pay but there rough.
Just be friendly and just act serious and interested but make the offer seem like it's no big deal.
If that doesn't work idk.

They are all good vacuums. Looks like a hoarder house, they can be tough to deal with, they don't want to sell anything unless you know what their triggers are and can get them to sell. Good luck!

hoover300, he was very grouchy we think it is because he doesn't sell much and he sits there all day selling nothing. As I'm only going on my teen years, you'd think he would sell a deal to a kid, guess not.

lesinutah, thanks for the advice. I will try to talk to him.

KirbyclassicIII, I am not sure as I really paid no attention to the Kirby. If you are near the area and want to go see it, the address is 7683 NY-5, Clinton, NY. I trust you to please not take anything I have dibs on decade 80!!!

It's the Decade 80 you're after right? Try telling him you'll take the Decade at $15. Make it sound like that's all you care about. Then if he asks you what about the other two, hesitate, and say $20.00 is all I can do for the pair, since I don't even know if they run.

He got his way on the Decade now he needs to bend a little on the two you're not really there for. If he says nah, fine, take the Decade and call it a day. He may change his tune at the register.

I read your profile, I'm impressed, especially given your age! Learn more about the basic repairs you can make and save some coin from going to the shops. You know what you're doing. Good luck with Mr. Grouch,if he starts to like you,he's another source in the future.
