Greetings VL, it's been a while. Hope everyone is well.
In front of me, I have two Riccar Vibrances with the hall sensor and lifetime belt feature. One is a dream machine of mine that I found last year, the other is a parts machine. The problem is that the dream machine, the one that's in perfect shape, the motor does NOT shut off if you vacuum up an obstruction and jam the brushroll. So I swapped both the hall sensor AND the hall sensor board from the donor machine (which does shut off as intended) and the first machine still won't shutoff, and the donor machine still works fine! Long story short, after swapping all the hall sensor parts from one machine to the other, both vacuums work exactly the same as before. My thoughts are, perhaps the first machine was wired incorrectly from the factory? I put all the wires exactly in the same place on both machines during reassembly. My other thought is that perhaps the motor has another component in it that's gone bad? | ||

Found the problem
A friend pointed out to me that if the clutch lining on the brushroll is worn down so that the belt is still turning while the brushroll is jammed, it will not trip the belt protection. I can see how this could become problematic after repeated hard floor to carpet switch cycles. I swapped brushrolls and the red machine (one of my favorites in my collection) kicked the belt protection almost instantly.
It's strange for a machine that looks to be very low hours to have such a worn clutch. I love the Vibrance line very much, especially this dual fan motor Ultra Premium model, but I understand why they moved away from the clean air design. Perhaps if the sensor read the brushroll instead of the belt it would be more reliable. | ||

Oh good, glad you got it working again! I wasn't too sure what the problem was after I read your first post. As much as I love these machines, I personally prefer an upright that's a dual motor where I can shut the brushroll motor off but still keep the suction motor going. That's one thing I do like about the R25 line more. I have a relative who owns a R20P.2 for a few years now and it still works fine even after shutting the brushroll off multiple times. Recently they just brought back the Vibrance but they're being sold under the Powr-Flite brand.
