Just joined VacuumLand today!

I'm looking for a service manual or a parts schematic on a 1948 GE Air Flo AVT 172 vacuum Cleaner.

Currently in a tear down mode on this unit and would like to have a manual/part schematic for the reassembly and the hunt for parts.

Many thanks!

J

About a manual. If you take a pic I could probably help you. I've taken a few 1948 modern hygiene, filtex, another filtex, royal 4150 straight suction.

I appreciate that. Will send along some pics once the parts are cleaned up.

Any source for parts for this model?

Thanks for the help.

You'd not going to find parts for the vacuum.

I had that feeling. Fortunately, I’ll be able to refurbish the parts in question.

Thanks

Just finished refurbishing the air flow and need some help on determining the correct on off push button switch. I can either bypass the old switch and install an inline switch or try to find a push button switch to replace the bad one.

I don’t have any specs on the motor. Guessing 10 to 12 amps @ 110v.

Anybody have any info on the rating for the on off push button switch?

Hi J

Welcome to VL! I'm going to say based on vacs I've seen from that era that the motor is somewhere from 3 to 5 amp @ 110-115v. We really didn't see 10-12 amp motors for residential use until the early 90's.My late 50's GE canister is rated 720watts @ 115v. Good luck with the resto.Someone here will have the exact specs for you soon, hang in there and once again, welcome! Billy

Have the same problem with my modern hygiene. The compact/triatar power switch off the compact electa is what I'm going to use and what I'd suggest.
Here's a link to the switch.
