To odavid123, Hi there it's Liam, just wondering if you had time yet to inspect that spare Kirby 1C motor and see what the problem is, as far as why it won't turn on. I also sent you another message on your post "Headlight cap black trim for a Kirby 2C". Hope everything is going well and you had time to inspect your spare Kirby 1C. Hope I here back soon, I'm excited to find out news about your spare Kirby 1C and its working condition, if it even turns on.

kirby note

As I said, I recently got a volt meter and I conducted three tests on my 2C armature, to see if it has bad windings. The 3 tests were a bar to bar, a 180 degree bar and a bar to ground test. I took readings with my volt meter and found out that there was a lack of amperage and voltage coming out of my armature, meaning the windings were bad. The armature did pass 2 tests but failed one. When I conducted the third test, I tested each opposite commutator bar at 180 degrees apart and took readings. I did it a few times and noticed that the amperage coming from the armature was decreasing, each time I tested a set of two opposite commutator bars. Overall I now have proved that the windings in my 2C armature are bad. I even tested my 2C's field coils with the volt meter but each time I did, the amperage and or voltage coming from the field was the same, meaning the field was NOT the issue, it was the armature.

Hi Liam , unfortunately my tech guy from Kirby hasn’t had anytime to inspect the machine yet and I don’t want
To mess with it . He did say he might be able to check it next week or so . I wish I knew as much as you do about the motor that’s some mad skill! Really tho very impressive

Question

Will your Kirby Tech guy have time to inspect that spare Kirby 1C of yours, some time this week like today, tomorrow or over the next couple of days? I hope the problem is only with the carbon brushes. Replacing them is a very simple task to do. Just get a flathead screwdriver and unscrew carefully both carbon brush caps, then replace them with new ones or ones that have plenty of carbon on them. Because if you're not careful when unscrewing the carbon brush caps, they are made of Bakelite and will easily break, so be careful please. You can use 505-515 carbon brushes in your spare 1C because they are the same to the brushes used in the 1C, 2C, 3C, 4C and even the
Scott Fetzer Sanitation System.

Update

Hi there, it's Liam, just wondering if you had any good luck with getting that spare Kirby 1C up to working condition. Hopefully you did have your tech guy inspect that Kirby 1C and he got it up to working condition, simply by replacing the carbon brushes. Hopefully there isn't anything majorly wrong with the motor like the armature or field coils having bad windings. Hopefully the vacuum runs good without bearing noise. If you do report back to me that the spare Kirby 1C runs good without problems, then great, I'd be interested into getting it.

Hi there, it's Liam again. Does the Kirby model 1C that you're going to sell on eBay turn on and work properly, without any issues? I am in desperate need of parts for my 2C as I've said. Also, how is that spare Kirby 1C inspection coming along? Has your tech guy been able to inspect it, work on it and test it at all?

Note To Remember

When you do get time to post that Kirby 1C onto eBay, please do not make the price thousands of dollars. I personally do not have a lot of money to spend and I only have over $120 to spend. Any price between $150-$250 would work best for me and that's if the Kirby 1C is complete and all factory original. If the vacuum includes only the motor unit then make the price cheaper. Again I don't have much money and would really love to get this machine for a fair price. I will need to use parts from it for my Kirby 2C repair job.

Hold on just a minute here! Are you HONESTLY expecting David to not list his Kirby 1C for what he feels it's worth, or not let it go to auction and get a high bid on it? Look, you have to realize, any collector that has something rare & valuable like a early Kirby is gonna ask a pretty penny for it - and with good reason. And he has every right to list it for what HE feels it's worth, NOT the price YOU want to pay for it because you don't have a lot of money and are in need of parts to fix your Kirby. Time to get realistic!

And one other thing, if you do get this Kirby 1C maybe you should make your Kirby 2C the spare parts machine if the motor on the 1C works & functions fine. Might be best to do that than to risk damaging a early Kirby motor.

I'll take your advise very seriously kirbylux77 and sorry for the inconvenience of me pushing a little too far with a honestly very cheap price. I got my Kirby 2C for $300 plus shipping, so let's wait and see what David feels comfortable with, when it comes to selling that Kirby 1C.
To odavid123, Sorry for me pushing you around with a honestly very cheap price and I apologize for being too selfish there. Let's see what you feel comfortable with when it comes to selling that Kirby 1C. What price works best for you with selling the Kirby 1C?

It’s ok I think Liam is just very excited about his 2c and is anxious to repair it . I do agree with you though that the C model shouldn’t be used for parts but rather left alone. In my opinion the C with the headlight is the best looking Kirby of that era .
I haven't decided what to sell it for, so Liam even if it’s out of your price range don’t get discouraged just keep looking.
