I had to take my Rainbow shampoo unit in for a repair this week. While I was at the dealers, he wrote up the repair and he offered to show me the new model. Got to say the dealer's store is really beautiful. He has been in the Rainbow business for years and years.

There were some things I liked about the new model and some not so much.
Liked: easy to remove water basin
attached wheel dolly
newest power nozzle now similar to my E2 black with perm side belt and good surface pick-up
easy connect electric hose
machine/tools appear to be of same high quality
Did not like:
smaller water basin
user has to press and hold power nozzle control
it is still a heavy machine
Dealer is very professional and made me a very good offer to trade-in for new machine. I am keeping my old machine. It was a good experience. I have used them before and good service. I have owned my machine since 2011. It has had a LOT of service and no problems. The hepa filter was changed ONE time in 12 years and it was still almost clean. Never any nasty odor and no need for yearly filter replacement. I DO empty the water basin at a reasonable time when in use.

Are you talking about the SRX? It's been out for almost 4 years at this point. Don't get me wrong its a good machine and I own it. It has had some minor tweaks here and there, the most recent being the "new power nozzle". Unless your talking about a machine thats even newer than the SRX. In fact we're due for a new model sometime soon if not within the next year or two.

When I bought my brand new 2 speed in 2006... over the years I've been so tempted to upgrade... but I just couldn't bring myself to do it since mine was perfectly fine...Thinking back, I think I've changed my HEPA maybe 3 times... I did have to have it fixed once....but the tech said I should never have to worry about it again... that the part he fixed was actually recalled years ago and I must not have known (I didn't) and it finally gave out on me... I'm trying to remember what it was... a control board? Apparently there was a recall on them a couple of years after I bought mine and I didn't know. I think it was like 2018..

No matter what cool model comes out in the future... I'm keeping my rainbow. I think it will outlast ME as long as I continue to maintain it and I'm totally happy with it...

The stupidest unncecessary purchase I made years ago was a Sirena... not that it's horrible. I just didn't need it. I like my rainbow so much better...Oh well. LOL

juju93,

I did realize that they came out a few years back but I had not had the opportunity to see one. It did have some new features but nothing enough to persuade me to trade mine in. The dealer did tell me about a new straight suction tool designed to be used on some fo the newer high pile soft rugs. I found it online but not on Rexair's web site. I am still using the rug tool from the old Rexair "b" with my machine for rugs that are not suited for a power nozzle.

We won’t be due for a new machine for quite a while. The E-Series lasted from 97-2019 with a lot of adjustments and improvements over those years. The same will happen with the SRX. While it is a decent machine it will go through improvements just like every rainbow that has ever hit the market to make it a better machine. Like most new things, it’s about trial and error. By the end of the E2 black, the machine was perfect! The only thing I didn’t like at the end of the E2B and don’t like now, is the new filter material. I feel it is too thick in comparison to the white E series filters, and restricts more airflow. That’s my opinion though.

The SRX is disappointing to me. The suction on my 1979 Chrome Dome is much better. I had to repair an SRX recently and after doing that I have come to the conclusion I won't ever own one.

I've had the same Rainbow D4C since 1996 and it just keeps going. I think the only upgrade I have ever wanted was a E2 Black. I just never got around to it. I have no interest in getting rid of my D4Cand I use it all the time still. The SRX for some reason doesn't have as much interest for me. It looks nice and has so e nice features. But if I was going to upgrade I would go with the E2 Black.

I prefer my single speed E-Series to use daily. It’s motor sounds pleasant compared to the whine of the 2 speed. Also easier to frequently empty, and pull compaired to a D4. That being said the D4 is still my favorite for nostalgia and looks.
