Found this at a garage sale for $10 , this old rainbow D2 is headed straight into restoration.
Saving another vintage vacuum and giving it a new life to carry on for many more years to come.

Heres the restored Rainbow, entire machine gone through and cleaned inside and out including motor.
Bearing were good so gave them some oil , motor brushes need replacement 3/4 wear so ordered new ones.
Powerhead cleaned inside and out + motor, new belt installed now runs like new, powerhead swivel point was worn and sloppy, so I rebuilt that to now tight like it was at the store new.
Runs very smooth and has great suction will be trying it out later today on my carpets.
Enjoy the pics!
Now time to find another vacuum restoration project.

Job on the restore. It looks like a solid machine brought back to life.

Wow what a fast turnaround! If only I could work that fast..... lol

I have one too but mine is non powered. I ho-hummed about it necause I didn;t really want it, but it was complete, but nobody was bidding on it so I figured I'd pass. eBay emailed me hours before the auction ended and it still had 0 bids so I said "ah what the hell" and placed a bid. I won it! Now that I have it I think it's rather nice, and it was cared for really well.

Thanks guys was a fun restoration , motor was a pain but made it through.
I tried out the vacuum today , fill it with water and gave it a shot , was very surprised on how well it worked, the suction was great and the machine is fairly quiet.
The power head is a monster with the suction I thought my rug would come right off the floor it performed better than I thought it would.
Huskyvacs why is yours non powered? Motor problems?

I love the Chrome Dome. That motor had more airflow than any other Rainbow motor.

Nice vacuum dysonman1
I noticed you have a part that came with mine but don’t know how it works or is missing a part to make it work?
Could you post a pic of this part all hooked up ? Would be great to share this.
