Hey there, Do you know that I have a Kirby Model 2C of my very own, with the factory original bag and a complete set of attachments. The only major problem with it is that I am in Desperate Need of a Kirby 2C or 1C armature. My Kirby 2C has a bad armature because when I turn on the motor, It runs much slower than normal speed and a burning electrical smell is noticeable. If someone out there has an armature for a Kirby model 2C or 1C, that Would be great? I'm on the lookout for one and I'm in desperate need of one so that I can use my Kirby 2C. Strangely the problem happened after I disassembled the vacuum for a complete buffing and polishing, when I reassembled it and tested it, that's when the problem was first noticed.

As to finding a headlight hood trim, I'd recommend using a replacement headlight hood trim for a Kirby 505 through 515. They usually come in tan, but just spray paint it black and cut it down to the length that you need, then fit on and there you go.

One thing to keep in mind is that a Kirby 2C armature will only fit in a Kirby 2C or model 1C. Do you know where to find a Kirby Vacuum store or service center that has or might have prewar Kirby parts, like a Kirby 2C armature? Do you know a place that has or might have a Kirby 2C or 1C armature, A Kirby 1C, 2C motor unit, Headlight hood trim, a bumper and wheels for prewar Kirby vacuums? I am not having any good luck finding any of these parts for my machine, Most of all That 2C armature. I've tried so many times to find a place or contact someone to see if it or they had something for my Kirby 2C, but no luck whatsoever. If you have something like an armature, wheels, etc. for a 2C or know where you or I can find the parts, Please Please let me know soon. I would love to know since I'm stuck in the process of restoring and repairing my Kirby 2C.
Thanks From Liam

Interesting Fact

The factory original bag is extremely rare especially because it's made out of corduroy material. Most bags for prewar Kirby vacuums were herringbone fabric, only a few were actually made out of corduroy material.

The 2c had a second version which was a heavy duty bag I have a couple . It would be cool if we had a chart with all the bags and images to go by .

Are you sure that a 505-512 armature will fit and work in a Kirby 2C? I tried a 510 armature in the 2C motor, however the body of the armature was too big and the shafts were also too big and really the whole thing could not fit, it just didn't work. Only the 2C or 1C armature will fit in a 2C. The whole motor housing, field and armature is a different design on a 505-512 compared to a 1C or 2C. If you know how to get or where to find a Kirby 2C armature, please let me know soon. I'd love to have one so that I can repair my 2C motor.

The armature won't fit. The bags weren't corduroy they were either herribone or duvytene. The 508 was the first curdouroy bag.

The ones I have on the C ( later model ) and 2c are in fact duvetyne. And I believe duvetyne was introduced with the 2C but I also think that the bag Liam has is original but I can be mistaken .

To odavid123, If you have a spare Kirby 1C armature or even a spare 2C armature, that would be terrific. Please let me know soon. I am in serious need of a 1C or 2C armature. I do know that the armature in my 2C is bad because the motor runs much slower than normal speed. I know the problem is not with the field because field coils do not usually go bad, armatures do. The problem is also not with the bearings because the armature and fan spins freely when the motor is off. A 1C armature will work in a 2C because they and the whole motor housing and field coil design is identical. If you have something for me, I'd appreciate it and I would be interested in maybe buying it from eBay. If you don't have anything for me, then please tell me where you or I could possibly find the 1C, 2C armature. The strange thing is that before I took my machine apart for polishing and lubrication, when I first tested the 2C, it was actually working perfectly.

I've seen better.... jk
Very nice job BTW I don't think 505 trim would fit on headlight for trim. I'm basing this off the emtor is smaller, motor is smaller housing, power switch is smaller, everything is smaller.
I'm sure the trim could be cut and painted and it would work.
What other super rare kirbys do you have hiding in your storage.

Hi again, this is Liam. I noticed you have a spare Kirby model 1C, a spare Kirby 505 and a Scott Fetzer Sanitation System all in boxes. Since I have a 2C of my very own, Which is in desperate need of an armature and other parts, is it ok if I buy that spare Kirby 1C from you or even a spare Kirby 2C? I would like to have at least a spare Kirby 1C of yours, that means buying it on eBay from you, so I can use its armature and other badly needed parts for my Kirby 2C and finish its restoration.

Hi Liam , the spare 1c isn’t in working condition I think it’s the motor too . Did you try repairing or taking it to an old Kirby shop ? Sometimes they carry very old Kirby parts or can help you fix it . Feel free to email me with the exact parts you need I’ll keep looking for you . I know how frustrating it can be .

You say you have a motor problem with your spare Kirby 1C. Does your spare 1C even turn on? If not then the problem is directly related to the carbon brushes being worn out. If there is still plenty of carbon left in the brushes, then the vacuum should turn on unless there is a broken or disconnected wire somewhere in the motor. If the 1C turns on perfectly and there isn't any problems with the bearings or armature, then great. Can you inspect the carbon brushes for me please? Make sure the carbon brushes are in good shape, if so the vacuum should turn on. Do you have spare carbon brushes for the 1C? If not then that's ok. Does the fan and armature spin freely without bearing trouble? I know My 2Cs armature and fan spins freely because its bearings are perfect, but still when I turn the motor on, it runs much slower than normal speed and a burning smell is noticeable. It has to be bad windings in the armature.

Please give me an update when you figure out the exact reason why that spare Kirby 1c is not turning on. Once you find the problem, contact me some time very soon. If you get the 1C to turn on then please tell me what you notice about the motors working condition and if there is any troubles with the running. If you find out that the 1C motor works perfectly, without any problems like bad windings or bearing noise, then please tell me when you get a chance. I am very excited to find out about this spare 1C and its working condition so that I may buy it from you to use parts for my Kirby 2C.
Thanks From Liam:)

quick question

To odavid123, Hi there just checking in and seeing how everything's going. Just wondering, how is that Kirby 1C motor problem inspection coming along? Did you get a chance to look at its carbon brushes and detect the issue as to why the motor isn't working? I also sent you two other messages yesterday about the spare 1C, but haven't heard back. Hope everything's going good.
From Liam:)

No worries, I'll try to be a little more patient. See if you can get in lots of time on Sunday to inspect that spare Kirby 1C motor. Anything that you find that is causing the problem, please let me know. Any update on the functionality and working condition of the vacuum, please let me know too, the next time you get a chance to inspect that 1C motor. But until then, hope everything goes well and I wish you lots of very good luck. Hope and pray that you can get that spare Kirby 1C working and working good. Again I wish you lots and lots of good luck.
Thank you From Liam

To odavid123, Hi there, just checking in and seeing how everything is going. I hope you're inspecting that spare Kirby 1C and looking over it to see what's wrong with it. Good news, I got a volt meter today at the hardware store and will try to use it to see if there's any problem with the electrical currency and voltage in my Kirby 2C armature. Anyway, Keep up with the good work and tell me what you discover about the cause for the 1C motor not working. Anything that you notice while you're inspecting that 1C motor, please tell me soon. I would be delighted to know.

It iirc 1c and 2c have a smaller emtor and have a smaller motor housing. I don't think it will fit but I'm sure you could make it fit.
