Why do warming drawers on ranges (where the storage drawer below can be used to keep food or plates hot) seem rarer now? I remember it used to be in the mid 2000s a lot of ranges had them, even some more basic Kenmores often had a “warm and ready drawer.”
Frigidaire even had a Gallery edition range where the warming drawer that had a glass window and could even be used as a secondary oven. The temperature could be set from a dial separate from the main oven controls. I’ve looked and I see few to no ranges with either feature anymore. The closest thing I guess you can get these days are the ones with a separate smaller oven with hinged door, located on top of the regular larger oven, which is located at the bottom with no storage drawer. Those ranges seem to be mainly by GE these days, but the first ones I remember were called Maytag Gemini. And for that matter 40” ranges no longer seem to exist either. |

I think the warming drawer feature has been gone for several decades. My last stove I bought in 1998 had no warming drawer, and my current one from 2016 does not either. Maybe it was too much of a fire hazard liability because people don't pull their oven out to clean under it. I have had too many mice invasions and I personally would never want that feature, the mice would think it's a 5 star hotel! With a free buffet! |

That is a very nice range! I wish they still made 40” ranges, I’ve seen a few of those in real estate listings, particularly older houses. I wouldn’t mind having one myself, with a hood stainless steel vent hood vented outdoors above it.
Some slightly earlier years of that glass top range had a fluorescent light over the knobs. It also came as a duel fuel 5 burner gas model but electric ovens. |
