Today I finally got a Rainbow D3A that I brought from ebay last week and it works great for it's age. However when I try to put the hose on the basin port it gets really tight I have to force myself to push it in and pull it out. The hose I'm using is designed to fit on Rainbow D1, D2, D3, and D4 series. Should I get another D3 basin to fit the hose smoothly?

Rugsucker, yes the metal end should be perfectly round. I brought it brand new last month. It fits on the D2 basin like a glove.

I forget, is the Rainbow basin spout a hard rubber or is it plastic? It's possible it might have shrunk and constricted with age.

Huskyvacs, you might be right. The vacuum is about 43 years old. So yes that's definitely possible.😊👍

Hmm, maybe stick it in a pan of boiling hot water for a little bit and see if the hose will insert when it's hot if that is the case, just be gentle. Maybe once it cools it will re-shape. Of course hopefully it won't get permanently stuck. lol

Other than buying another one I'm not sure what else to do if it has somehow shrunk. Maybe some plastic safe grease.

You might also-

-try sandpaper around inside of the pan opening.

I did the hot boiling water on the basin. The hose went in the port smoothly but unfortunately after cooling it with cold water the hose still struggles going in. So I think the best thing to do is get another basin for this model.

Ah OK, yeah probably just try and find another one. Maybe something happened to this one in the past that caused this to happen. At least we know now that it did shrink.

Huskyvacs, I found one on eBay that originally came off from a D4C. From Hondo TX.
