Finally after about a year of consideration I purchased myself a new Riccar Supralite cordless R10CV. I took home a Simplicity Freedom cordless demonstrator model this weekend to see how it would perform in my home and it did better than I expected. I was concerned the machine wouldn’t be powerful enough to lift the cat hair out of my thicker wall-to-wall carpet or my oriental rugs. I have a black oriental rug and one of my cats is a white long hair so needless to say, that rug shows a lot of his hair. I have had struggles getting his hair vacuumed up off of that rug with even my Miele’s. My Oreck forever gold actually performs best on this rug. The freedom cordless picked up all of the hair one pass and lifted the nap nicely. After that and how quiet it was I was sold. I brought the loaner freedom back to the store today and purchased myself the Riccar. I also purchased the horse hair stiffer brush strips since it comes with the soft white ones and I need more agitation. First modification done to the vacuum and I haven’t even used it yet! Just charging it up now but I’m thrilled to have one.

Interesting.

I thought the horsehair bristles were the softest. I was aware of 3 types of strips and I thought they were in order from stiffest to softest were.
Nylon
Vinyl (white)
Horsehair

Enjoy your new machine though! They seem extremely handy.

By feeling them, the white brush strips have always seemed to be softest to me. The horsehair is a nice in-between where the red nylon ones that ship with the rest of the R10 series (excluding the R10E and PRG variant) are extremely stiff. But yes this machine will be incredibly handy to me and I’m excited to own one.

I like these machines, even though I'm not really a cordless person.
