This is my dirt devil broom vac and it needs a lot of work. Broken fan, broken pulley for belt and probably a broken motor. I will try my best to get this going again.

Yes the carbon brushes, if they are new and have been replaced, have to hone themselves into the motor so you might notice an ozone like smell or blue sparks. This should clear up the longer it is used. Burning rubber smell would be coming from the belt, make sure it is installed correctly and is not slipping. If the belt is OK, it can also possibly be an old smell trapped in the motor from the last owner that is finally being blown out. |

IMO someone that has 40 years experience would be the person to listen to. Orange sparks indicate bad connection point to the commutator. Blue sparks indicate a short circuit in the armature or commutator coil. Green sparks indicate the motor is overheating and dying. Many motor repair videos on youtube will give you an idea of whats going on but the basic gist is bad connection point of the commutator to brushes. Gadiel 3 years ago all you have to do is just clean the brushes and the mating surface so that they can contact each other properly. make sure that the brushes can slide up and down freely and that the spring or whatever pushes down on the brushes are doing so properly.
