My friend is selling a Hoover model u4033. He is asking $400. I think I could get him down lower. Im thinking about $350, including a Jcpenny convertible he wanted $30 for. Im guessing he restored it but I have received vacuums from in the past in not the greatest condition. I got a U.S Hoover Junior (Green) and it needed the bearings to be rebuilt. Let me know if I should get this U4033. Also, check out my youtube, http://youtube.com/channel/UCWGupxOmkoiHyHx5Qci8UbA

While that is a hard model to find, I don't think any Convertible is worth $400. I assume you're referring to a U4033 and not a U4003 like in your title. Penncrest Convertibles are also not easy to come by and I think $30 is way too low as a "trade-in" for the U4033 depending on what condition it's in. Post pictures if he sends them and we'll see if it's really worth what he wants.

You also brought up the Junior and it's bearings. Are you looking for someone to grease the motor bearings?

he had pictures but vacuumland wouldn't let me upload them. I am getting the bearing on my junior worked on but the guy I sent it to hasn't got to it yet. I do mean "U4033". That is a poppy color convertible which is custom. heres a link to the one I want: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bi...

Thanks for your feedback. I know Rob can be like that. Once, I guess he didn't even screw the hood back on one of his convertibles. We were surprised that he wanted $30 for JcPenny convertible because he asks insane prices. I will let that u4033 go. I will probably go after his Penncrest piece. He does have a Penncrest cordreel upright but I won't even ask because he would never let that go.

Well, I won't go into the horrible details. or 'bas

gottahaveahoove's profile picture

but, a few examples:  I agreed to buy 2 British "Seniors"...had to send the $$ to Grandma. Song and dance... COVID + No deliveries, wrong labels, etc... After a serious ordeal, I got my money back.. WASN'T EASY................ only to see them go to someone else (with pics).

I hosted NUMEROUS mini meets at my home, (dinners, gifts, etc)....No more. ..Wanted machines from me..gave me a M Wards stick vac... opened it later... no bag holder!.

I GAVE a unique senior (the famed orange one) to Tom who?)  Anderson. Now, it's nice to see it in his collection, rather than a painful reminder of someone whom I THOUGHT was a friend

I was told by several people... I gave the benefit of the doubt.....Burned big time. Mini meets are now a thing of the past at my place.

I could add a lot more, but will stop here.

I forgot................

I got VICIOUS, nasty emails..................... almost threats. God knows what else he may  have done.

He is supposedly 'friends' with some who hate me. One not too far from here.  I'm sure my ears have burned more than once!

To them, I say, "Knock yourselves out".

I wouldn't buy a postage stamp from this person.

Im sorry to hear what happen with you and Rob. That is interesting you gave him the cordreel upright. You probably regret it now.

I'll add that regardless of a seller - I have never had any deal actually go through on Mercari or OfferUp. Big fat waste of time. Period.

The people that join those sites have never sold anything before in their life and think selling something means you can take the money and go spend it and do nothing. It's full of scammers and kids because those sites have zero protections in place to ensure the buyer gets their item. I have a list, I tried 37 times in the past 4 years to buy some vacuum on OfferUp - I never got a single thing. They either never replied (90% of the time), wanted me to pick it up even when they had shipping selected and I paid for shipping, or just flat out took my money and never shipped it and did nothing.

To use as a marketplace, Offerup is a really bad, scummy site. I've not tried Mercari but I assume it is the same. I use it as a go between for private deals, lets me ship big boxes for $16 + the fee. That still comes out cheaper than USPS would charge.
You did have at least one deal go through with Offerup - the Fantom Fury from my collection lol

Yes, Keiran, the way we used OfferUp as a middleman that's a bit different, as we aren't just random people, we are doing the business off-site and just using the platform as a cash register. And we both are no strangers to how selling works. :)

And yes I did not forget you about that, I appreciate what you did for me very much! And I did get some new bin parts to put on it to fix what was broken but I have not installed them yet. I also remember I think I have a filter for it too, I need to sort through my 'consumables' and get all those bags and belts and filters sorted out.
