Hey all.
I've been really trying not to buy any more vacuums. It has to be something that really speaks to me. Well, I hit a thrift store today that I haven't been to for probably months. I left $15 poorer, and lugging a blue Eureka upright, nearly identical to the one I remember from childhood. Initially, I thought it was 100% identical. But, I spotted one difference that I found a little bit odd. I remember Mom's having a setting on the Dial-a-Nap called "Patio". And, in the owner's manual, which came with this vacuum, it shows the "Patio" setting. However, that setting on this actual vacuum is designated as "Low". I'll post some pictures soon. But, for now, all I have available is one of the info tag. The vacuum is in what I would call decent condition for its age. The exception is the rear wheels. I don't know if someone dropped it or what. But, both rear wheels are shattered. I don't know how hard it's going to be to find replacements, and to do the replacing. But, I'm hoping to be able to do it. Please excuse the dang upside down picture.

Congrats! These blue Eurekas are from my childhood as well!!!!
Re: blue Eureka wheels…..Eureka Williams always had these cool wheels that looked like Trivial Pursuit pie holders with alternating spaces and blocks…after I came over my fear of our Eureka upright as a child, I loved watching those rear wheels turn whenever the vac was used. I could tell a Eureka or Eaton Viking canister vac in any store display from a mile away just by those unique Trivial Pursuit wheels! Not sure if the 2010 came with those old classic EW Super Automatic/Twin Power upright wheels or not. I remember that our newer 2083 Rugulator upright no longer featured those classic wheels - they were just solid gray. | ||

Nick, Thanks for that link! That will be great if those are the ones I need! I see a little metal tab, secured by one screw, that seems to hold the rear axle in place. I haven't messed with it yet. But, if you just remove the axle, and the wheels just slide on, that would be great! It's funny how there seems to be so much Eureka conversation on here right now. Then, this machine, which I thought I'd never see again, just pops up! And I almost didn't go to the store that day. And, while at the store, I almost didn't go back to where the vacuums are; because they rarely have anything but maybe a filthy, late model bagless or two. This time, they had the Eureka, a Kirby Ultimate G with the shampoo accessories, (and possibly more), in their box for $35, a Panasonic upright of some sort. And a Hoover FloorMate, which is something that I was looking for, not too long ago. But, I since picked up a Bissell CrossWave. I'm going to vacuum a few spider webs off the Eureka, and try to get a few pictures. | ||

Brian,
I'm thinking this vacuum does have the pie slice wheels that you're referring to. On closer inspection, they appear to have melted! Is that bizarre? I took this picture of the only good part, so you could see the design. I'm giving the painted parts a cleaning, then I'll try to get some pictures.

Sorry for the bad lighting, and the fact that my pictures will probably post in all different directions.
Hopefully, you can still see her well enough. Until I'm able to replace the rear wheels, I may have to temporarily name her "Eileen". (I lean) She sits a little bit wonky because one rear wheel is melted worse than the other one. I can't, for the life of me, imagine how something melted the rear wheels! | ||

I managed to find a pretty good deal on a pair of rear wheels. They're not the same color as the originals, but they look like the same style.
I'll still keep my eyes open for a pair exactly like the originals. It's also going to need a belt. The one that was on it was broken, and fell off when I took off the bottom cover; which is referred to as the belt guard, in the owner's guide. It doesn't, however, tell me a part number for the belt. Can anyone advise? Barry | ||

Belt I would assume that it would use a standard Eureka RD belt (the same kind for Sanitaires), but I'm not totally sure. | ||

Barry, If it's a round belt it would be Style RD - Eureka part number 52100. | ||

Okay. Sorry for more questions. I just want to check with people who know, before I buy the wrong thing.
I see lots of 52100 belts for sale. But, most of them have a letter after the part number. I have no idea what the different letters mean. Is there a difference? Also, is genuine Eureka/Sanitaire better than the aftermarket brands? This vacuum will hardly ever be used, so I shouldn't even be giving it this much thought. But, I worry. That's my specialty. The rear wheels that I bought arrived today. They look like they would fit fine. Like I said, they're not the same color as the originals. These are a very light grey.
Here's the latest obstacle. It looks to me like there's just one Phillips screw holding the rear axle in place. Once removed, I'm guessing the wheels just slide off the axle. Simple; right? Except, not being a DIY type, I have very limited tools. Neither of the two Phillips screwdrivers that I have seem to be able to budge the screw. It feels like it's welded in place.The screwdrivers have already slipped a few times, and I don't want to strip out the head of the screw. With the health issues I'm currently dealing with, I don't have a whole lot of motivation for projects. At this point, I'm ready to re-donate the vacuum, and just forget about it. I apologize to those of you who have done such amazing full restorations of machines in way worse condition than this one. But I'm just not made that way. I don't have an aptitude for this stuff, and I get discouraged very easily. The only reason I even attempted this, is because of my childhood connection to an almost identical vacuum, and the fact that I thought everything that this one needed would be within my very limited ability. Not to further jinx things, but I haven't even heard the motor run yet. I wanted to wait until I got a new belt on it. Again, I apologize for my pessimism. It's just where I am right now. Maybe it's time for me to get out of this hobby. Barry | ||

Thank you. I won't make any hasty decisions on the Eureka. I've been dealing with health problems, and not thinking too clearly. I don't want to make a decision that I'll regret once I'm feeling better. I appreciate you looking into the belts. I guess I can order one, and just disregard the letter after the part number. I was kind of leaning toward that, but I wanted to check with more knowledgeable folks. Barry | ||
