General Overview/Ramble about the "D850-A"

I guess this counts as a cover-all for the D850-A, lets hope this thread doesn't crash and burn like the last two-ish, I poured my soul into this one.

Since my last post, the D850-A* has been near-fully restored; that entailing that it's in standard working order, or as well as it can function without an emtor or motor switch cover.

*D850-A; "Dual Sanitronic 80-50 Amalgam"

More on the pieces, the nozzle DOES not appear to be from the D50, the only confirmed D50 piece on the unit is the headlight cap, and the top plastic piece for the suction relief vent seems to've been recast in blue, making it another addition to the 'aftermarket pieces' pile.

I'm still unsure on whether I should even put an attempt on repairing the very deep gashes on the right side of the nozzle (the unit's left), the only reason being me saying to myself that it 'adds character'. Personally I've grown to appreciate them, even though it counts as an imperfection, the whole unit is and always will be an imperfection to other collectors besides a good few handfuls; no matter what I do to it, it won't be perceived in the same light as any other Kirby system, as if to be lesser or subordinate because of something it can't control and couldn't do anything to stop (the half-hearted 'rebuilding', that is).
I've come to peace with this fact that it won't be given the same life or dare-I-say respect it would've had if it were what it used to be, but that's why I've done what I have, to give it use again while it can still provide, and even after that.

ANYWAY enough emotional-sentimental rambling and back to the technical junk. The lack of an emtor seems to be causing a lot of lint buildup around the inner piece of the bag's gasket, as well as jamming the zipper track.
But returning to the topic of the rug nozzle, it's been behaving odd lately, and I can't for the life of me remember if it was always like this or if I inadvertently caused it at one point during the repairs. The front belt-lifter piece, will always sit crooked when the headlight bulb is in place and the cap is lowered, or else it will sit DIRECTLY against the bulb (though it does that either way). This hasn't caused any physical issues so far and seems to be superficial and/or cosmetic, it's likely due to the headlight cap and nozzle not being from the same model, I think.

I will admit, I care for this thing a lot more than I probably should. It's taken up a lot of my time but it's finally paid off, if your vision of 'paying off' is me compulsively cleaning my floor several times a week.

Checkrate/Likes 3 You still haven't listened to me about the pictures I've asked you to take. All you have to do is remove the rug nozzle. If you're not sure of how to do that, then ask for directions and we will gladly assist. The reason two of your threads have "crashed" is because you keep asking us for information but aren't giving us the rest of the pieces to your puzzle. If you would have posted pictures of the fan chamber where the safety switch sits, I could have given you an answer. Some D50 units did not have this tab and some did. Again, if you don't post additional information, we cannot further assist you. I have told you this in two different threads with no response from you. In regards the the belt lifter issue, post a picture of the underside of the headlight cap. It just lifts up. I wonder if your socket is bent or installed wrong. The nozzle scratches are up to you to fix. Sanding and polishing is not an optimal project for a beginner and takes lots of practice to achieve good results. View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes *Electrolux137 & repairman* "D850-A" is the name I've given the amalgamated model, it just doesn't feel right to call it a D80 /or/ a D50 when it really isn't either; in the state it's in, it's essentially its own thing. Also repairman, I'm not looking for its origin anymore, I'm simply posting my theories, so removing the nozzle isn't exactly necessary. I /will/ be able to get the pictures of the headlight cap as soon as I get home, though.

Checkrate/Likes The bulb is interfering with your belt lifter because the tape on the wires of the socket is causing a misalignment. You probably need a new socket if you want the belt lifter to sit correctly. Also, seeing that tab on the fan housing confirms that this is either a late model D50 or a D80. Wouldn't know that unless you took it apart down to the motor.

Checkrate/Likes *Repairman* Sounds doable, I can disassemble it down to the motor but no further, the screws on the fan case are jammed or something and won't budge. I might resort to just destroying the screws and replacing them, if that'd even do anything. (tldr; I can only remove the rear housing.) The tape was also there when I got it, most of the pieces, including the motor especially, had some kind of tape on it (I still get icked at the memory of having to peel up /scotch tape/ from the motor.) Obligatory "I think the motor might've been replaced because it has a massive string of letters written in what I think might be sharpie." If that's normal to see on units, I wouldn't know. Thanks for the help.

Checkrate/Likes 1 *Weird* Awhile back, I got the carcass of a red trimmed D50(?). Someone took the motor housing, emtor, and head off, and spray painted it silver. I thought mine was the only one that was like that, weird to see another. Someone also took the original switch off and put a 500 series switch on it. An impact driver and WD40 really help on the fan housing screws, vice grips can be useful as well.
