My latest find. And first Panasonic I’ve had. It’s been well kept. Needs a good cleanup and then it willl be good as new.

By the way can anyone tell me when these were made? There’s a sales receipt in the manual from April 1st 1988, but I wonder if it was purchased used at that point? I was thinking this was an earlier model as I had an upright the same colors that I believe the receipt said was purchased in ‘84/‘85.

BriGuy,

Sorry can't help you on the date. Just wanted to congratulate you on yet another great find. It really does look brand new.

Hi BriGuy,

I'm not an expert when it comes to Panasonic vacs, but I am pretty sure that this one is from the mid 1970's if not earlier. I think that colour scheme of red and beige is from the very first line-up of Panasonic vacs made in Japan for the North American market - right after Panasonic acquired the rights to the Dial-a-Matic design from Hoover.

Early to mid 1980’s.

The first iterations of these machines were mustard yellow and I’m not sure if they were available with a power nozzle.

I've always wanted one. The one thing that irritates me is that the wands don't have cord clips.

It looks like the last Hoover Dial-a-Matic was on the market in 1977. So maybe Panasonic Jet Flo’s started appearing in North America in 1978 or 1979?

The earlier upright model is nothing like a Jet-Flo

Dysonman1 has one of these Panasonic uprights from the early 1970’s. It more closely resembles a Eureka Emporor than a DAM.

If this model number for your vac is MC-9420, then it came out in 1986. It was Consumer Report's top pick for canister vacuums for that year alongside the Hoover's S321 and Whirlpool's FC700.
