A few weeks ago, my grandmother told me to come over to her nearby (5 minutes away) one-story duplex home to vacuum it every 2 weeks or so, and that I would get paid for it. Like my house, she has primarily laminate floors, a large area rug by the TV and carpet in the bedrooms.

After giving it some thought, I agreed a few days ago. Today, I went over there and vacuumed using her Shark NV800W DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed. I got paid $50 for doing so. I appreciated the cash; however, when I came home, my dad asked me if I told my grandmother that she didn't have to pay me, and I answered no. So I texted her, stating that I want to vacuum her house for free from now on, and she thought it was very sweet and kind of me to do so. It makes sense, because she is a family member, NOT an employer; my main job is washing dishes at a fancy, private restaurant close to my home.

Her Shark was a nice little machine to use; it did a great job on both carpet and hard floors. The Powered Lift-Away feature was really nice; it enabled me to easily clean under the furniture. And I went along the edges with the hose. The canister was almost full when I was done.

Do you get paid to vacuum your family members' house(s) or no?

You should vacuum for free, but get paid to clean out that nasty dirt bucket when you're finished...

I vacuum my relative's houses all the time but I refuse for them to pay me, especially servicing their vacuums unless if they needed any parts replaced on their machines.
