Hi everyone, FNG here I have a 1977 Royal 880 (commercial stark shake out bag) and I am currently looking at picking up a Royal 993 and was wondering what the differences were and how they compare (besides higher amperage motor and foot adjuster) I currently use the 880 at work to clean our floor rugs which collect lots of dirt every day (auto parts store, farm community) so far its the first vacuum I have used that actually cleans them as all of our plastivacs have either burned up or clogged badly after very little use. Would the 993 be even better in this kind of environment or should I continue my search for a nearby hopefully low cost 1030 model? the link is of the 993 that I am looking at.

Stephan,

Royal produced the 993 from 1988 to 1990. It was exactly the same as the model 992 that came out at the same time, but it also had the 303 attachment kit (gray tools) included.

If you do decide to have a go at buying this, I believe this will be just as good as the 880 you're currently using. Speaking of which, I have an early 1985 model 880 (also with the Stark's branded bag on it), which has the 4.5 amp motor, and I have all the tools for it.

Thanks for the reply, mine unfortunately didn't come with any attachments (probably wouldn't have used them even if it did) and its got the 3 amp motor. I guess what I am wondering is is the suction better on the 993 or did they change the brush style in any meaningful way, would the performance be better in any way that would make switching to this one worth it? I am new to this so don't really know the differences between the models except for the 880 and the 1030 I've been looking into.

Stephan,

Yes, the 6 amp motor of the 992/993 generally does make it a stronger Royal suction-wise than your 880. The last 880 was made in 1987 and had the 5.4 amp motor.
