Nice line up!

I've got two from grandparents and great grandparents. An "F" and a "XXX". Do you have a favorite?

Passed down through the generations!

I have my Paternal Grandmother’s XXX which became my Father’s Sisters after their mother passed away as she always lived with her in the family home. It became her house, she unfortunately passed away at 57 when I was 15 and I asked for the Electrolux!

My Mom has her Mother’s Olympia. Her sister also never married and lived with their Mother…after my Grandmother died in 1983, my Aunt lived in the house but never cleaned much and passed away in 1995. So the Olympia didn’t see much use during it’s early years. It’s in great shape today and my Mom uses it for the downstairs about once every two to three weeks. She does have a stick vac with a power brush she uses in between because it’s just easier but she does pull the Electrolux out periodically.

It’s nice that your grandparents did not delete the “old” machines when they got the new ones. Those are all nice machines to have, I only wish my maternal Grandmother hadn’t let the man take away her machines because she had many Electrolux’s and the salesman would always wheedle her into the new model. She always had two. One upstairs and another downstairs. She also had a Golden Jubilee when my Aunt passed away in 1995 and that one went to my Mom's other sister and she has since passed away but it might be in her family as she has 3 children and many Grandchildren and great grandchildren.

My Mom’s first Electrolux was a model S her Mother gave her (that was hers) when my parents got married in 1960. The motor finally was dying this past summer as it was the basement vac and I did a lot of cleaning when I was there this summer, finally this last Christmas, I decided it was time to send it out to the trash. The motor was running slow and smelled bad and so I kept the attachments, switch, cord, handle, wheels, and cloth bag for spare parts and use on a white model L we have that runs well. Interestingly the model L’s wheels broke while I was using it so that is what made me decide I should let the S go and become a parts donor. It was around 64 years old and served us well but was recruited to the “basement vac” in the early 70’s when my parents bought new light yellow carpet for the house and Mom felt she should get the power nozzle and a general better vacuum and bought a brand new teal model L. That one is at a vacation home she has now.

Fun having these vacs from the family because you know the general history and care.

Jon

Proving the dependability of an old "Lux"! My Great-grandmother's Olympia is still going strong!

Keep them maintained and you should have another 10-20 good years with them.

Which one do you think cleans best?

Congrats!

How nice to acquire so many at once, and better yet, you know their history. They're in really nice condition too. I don't see many teal model Ls as clean as yours.

I wish I had my paternal grandparents' LX. It was still in regular use well into the '90s and probably still in the house when my grandfather passed in 2001. Oh well, it's long gone so no sense crying over spilt milk.

The one 'family' Electrolux I do have is a 1205 my dad grabbed when the neighbors put it out on the curb. I think I was the only one in the family who really used it. The hose leaked like crazy but I still liked it anyway. I just didn't understand about woven hoses. I had assumed it had been disposed of when my parents moved in the mid '90s but was surprised to find it in their attic about five years ago. Although I had initially thought to hold onto it as a parts donor for my other 1205, I ended up refurbishing it and making it a full member of the fleet. These days, it sports an OEM vinyl hose and a PN2 power nozzle, which it had never had before.

How wonderful to have received all 5 of your Grandparents' Electroluxes! All fine and beautiful machines, apparently they took good care of them.
I only have one that my Grandparents actually owned in my collection, my maternal Grandmother's Hoover Constellation model 82. Grandpa bought it for her for their 40th Wedding Anniversary in 1955, then he passed away in Feb. 1956, just 5 months before I was born. She brought it with her when she moved in with us just before my 9th birthday, and from then on it didn't get much use. She passed away in 1992, then 6 years later when my Mom sold her house and moved into an apartment, Grandma's Connie came home with me. Here's a couple pics. Again, congrats on the Luxes!
Jeff
