Finally getting around to repairing the dishwasher after months of hand washing dishes...
Nearly all the parts for this have become obsolete. I managed to find a new-old-stock motor and some of the needed parts on eBay, but sadly it needs more than I can give it. Too many obscure parts that are nearly impossible to find, as well as the time to locate replacements and repair the dishwasher. After 50 years, it looks like it's time to put Grandma's old dishwasher out to pasture. I still can't bring myself to pitch the physical unit, I suppose I have some hope of finding the parts someday. I think it's time to change from a portable to a built in.

Even though I'll continue to look for parts, I have a feeling Grandma's Kenmore is done for. It'll make a hell of a tupperware cabinet, since I just started lopping out of cabinet to put the find of the day in.
Ended up scoring a KitchenAid KDC-20 on Facebook Marketplace for 50 bucks and I'm told everything is fully functional, and was in service until last week. Looks like I'll have clean dishes again

When I have time to crawl under the house this weekend and run a circuit for the dishwasher, it'll be all set up. Until then the trim plate stays off.
Leveling feet need to be set too, but it'd in and looks like it belongs! |

Looks good. Just a thought, How hard would it be to convert the cabinet you pulled into an island to go in the place of the old dishwasher? When I was very little, we moved into a house that didn't have a dishwasher and Dad added one immediately. There was a removable cabinet filling the space for the dishwasher, which ended up going downstairs to the laundry room for use as a utility cabinet. At first, Dad just cut a piece of plywood to serve as a countertop but he eventually scored a scrap of Formica counter the right size. In your case, I could see re-purposing the countertop from the freestanding dishwasher. Then, you'd at least have part of your grandma's dishwasher still in the kitchen.

It's definatly a thought, Edgar. I'll keep that in mind. Until then, the Kenmore is still in the Kitchen and I have sent the cabinet to the basement in case it is needed.
The Kitchen Aid is on its maiden voyage today, I went into the crawl yesterday and ran a dedicated circuit to it. Connected plumbing today and now it's on a test run with some silverware and a few pots
