From what I gather here, GE vacuums became Premier in 1972. I would guess production at the time moved from General Electric's massive plant on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport Connecticut to the Premier headquarters in Cleveland Ohio.

Here in the US Premier apparently stopped selling vacuums in 1982, however they were still producing parts thereafter. The design of the GE compact canister MV1, started being sold as a Eureka with Eureka tools in 1982, so I believe Eureka had acquired the rights to it.

However, in other areas of the world, GE vacuums continued on.

I've read that the GE Swivel Top was still selling in Australia as late as 1986.

I am not sure when it stopped being sold in Canada. And were these made in Canada, or were they still being produced somewhere else? There also was another GE canister sold in Canada that started out as a Regina. It was also sold under the Black and Decker name after B&D bought out GE housewares in 1984/85.

The website I linked below was interesting. It states that the GE Swivel Top was still selling in Brazil until 1986, when Black and Decker bought the GE manufacturing plant. However, there Black and Decker continued to sell the GE Swivel Top all the way into the mid 1990s.

So I guess it could well be that Brazil was actually the last place in the world that the Swivel Top was on sale. Quite a long production run.

I'd like to see pictures of one of these 1980s and 1990s B&D Swivel Tops. I wonder what they looked like and if they were the taller twin fan style or the short single fan?
