My dad suddenly decided to part ways with a longtime friend of ours: the Dyson DC07 Animal. He sold it for $40 on Facebook Marketplace tonight, to a lady who really wanted a vacuum for the second floor of her big house.

This Dyson, which my dad paid top dollar for at Target shortly after Christmas of 2007, has been a wonderful machine for nearly 14 years. It was the daily driver at my old house with wall-to-wall carpeting, until 2013, when we got a Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet from Amazon Vine, which cleaned better than the Dyson. In 2014, my parents announced that they were divorcing, so my mom took the Dyson with her to her new apartment, despite having no pets. That bothered me a bit, so I gifted her with a new Hoover Air Steerable vacuum 2 1/2 years ago for Valentine's Day in 2019. I then got the old Dyson back in my possession.

Nowadays, in my current house, I just have too many vacuums for the average user:

- Electrolux Ergorapido Cordless Stick/Hand Vac
- Hoover ONEPWR Blade MAX Cordless Stick Vac
- Eureka Flash Corded Stick Vac
- Oreck HEPA Cordless Bagged Upright
- ECOVACS Deebot Robot
- Shark AI Robot

We are in the process of downsizing our current vacuum collection. He hinted at getting rid of the Dyson when we got the Hoover Blade a few weeks ago. Then he sold the Dyson behind my back today, so when he broke the news to me tonight, I let out a big "NO!" and died inside. I couldn't imagine parting with that vacuum so unexpectedly, especially since our neighbors across the street own the exact same Dyson.

To be fair though, usage of this Dyson has declined in recent years, especially after replacing the carpet at my old house with laminate flooring downstairs. My current house has pre-installed laminate flooring downstairs, where the Deebot runs every night. And the Shark robot runs upstairs every now and then, so I don't have to vacuum nearly as much as I used to.

I hung onto its 3 additional attachments: mini turbine head, low reach floor tool and Zorb groomer, as well as the 3 original on-board attachments (brush tool, stair tool and crevice tool), so I included them with the sale. They have been well-preserved after all these years.

I praise this Dyson for serving my family so well for nearly 14 years, and grant it good luck to its new owner.

14 years is a long time, the plastique in them doesn't even last that long. My All Floors DC07 is in several pieces from shipping damage + stubbing my foot on the base. Many people tell the same with this model series and older, that parts keep breaking off them. Not sure if its related to climate or what.

Really does make me laugh when you hear people say "Dysons don't last, they fall apart" and here is yet another example of one still working perfectly fine after 14 years. Yes, plastic degrades, especially older ABS, they are nearly all made of Polycarbonate or an ABS Poly blend, and designed to be much more flexible but anyway, I digress.

Sounds like you've gone through a bit of emotional trauma. Sorry to hear this, thoughts and prayers.

This Dyson has really stood the test of time; it has only ever had one part break on it, the soleplate. It developed a crack on one side, but luckily, it hasn't affected operation at all.

In recent years, my mom and I have had to buy replacement parts for it. She replaced the clutch and HEPA filter, and I bought a new pre-motor filter and hose for it. The new hose was gray, rather than purple, as that's the only OEM color I could find for this model. Now this Dyson is like a brand-new machine.

A couple months ago, I bought a genuine Soft Dusting Brush tool off eBay for this Dyson, but I only used it maybe twice. Now I've cleaned it up and am reselling it on eBay; I'll make a post in the Super Market forum for those who are interested.
