The Convention starts on a Friday, but quite a few people arrive on Thursday, some as early as nine in the morning. Some visit fellow collectors in St. Louis before heading out.

The Mixer I made the Blueberry Waffles with for Sunday's Breakfast following the Convention before everyone went home. I made 45 Belgian Waffles.
It's a KitchenAid model K-4B made right after World War II. It belonged to the late Austin Wilder (gone 10 years the end of this month). The bowl is tinned pot metal (steel was hard to get). It's good to get it down and make food for friends. |

The Perfect straight suction canister won, the Electrolux Super J was the worst. Alex at "Performance Reviews" took all the video. I know he put some of it up already on the you tubes.
The wonderful article and radio piece about the Convention is up on St. Louis National Public Radio (NPR) I just don't know enough about computers to share the link. There are some wonderful pictures of Hoovers (and others) plus all the interviews with attendees. If anyone knows how to share links, please do. |

@dysonman1 Thanks for sharing the wonderful convention with everybody on here it was a great time can't wait to see you all next year!
@Blackheart Officially that little perfect mighty might thing. Unofficially the results were being tested with a Kirby sales demo disc and being measured on a scale that was rather inconsistent. Stay tuned they'll be a video on the event and more. |

Next year will be even bigger and better. The theme next year is power nozzle canisters.
Third week in September and it's always FREE. It's not a dues paying club, just a bunch of friends who enjoy vacuums, the sport of the cleaning competition and the excitement of trying new (to you) vacuums. There's no hotel convention room and no banquet you have to pay for. Just come as you are with your favorite machine (or no machine - doesn't matter there are hundreds of them here). |

There is no age requirement, so new machines could be used. It’s really the technique and the shape of the rug tool. Robert won because he had the best technique. The fact that he cleans with this machine for a living probably helped, but only in technique. Remember it’s just a friendly competition among friends, it’s as scientific as it needs to be, and the results reflect real world results. Generally. Enough to have a winner.

Wow! What a great time I had. I was only there for about 48 hours and it was vacuuming fun with new and old friends.
Tom and Donnie were so generous to have opened their home, their business, give their time and feed us as well. I got there mid Friday afternoon and things were in full swing. I met so many new vacuum collectors that were totally welcoming. We went out to dinner Friday night at, "The Sirloin Stockade", for a great meal with good serivce. After dinner, we reconvened at Tom and Donnie's house for vacuum fellowship and fun. The conversations were all over the map about vacuums, old cars, cooking, appliances, travel, etc. It was great. Contrary to what some may think, there was no drunkeness, out of control behavior and no one stayed too late. Whatever issues may have existed in the past were long forgotten. Someone even apologized for drama they may have created years ago. I was quite moved and amazed by this. On Saturday things started early as the contest was schedulled to begin at 9:30. Tom generously asked me to judge the contest as I had a lot of previous experience. We moved along at a nice pace and shortly after 12 noon we were announcing the winners. Around 2 PM it was off to Tom and Donnie's for the most amazing lunch of pulled pork barbecue that Tom cooked complete with North Carolina and Memphis based sauces for drizzling!! Sides were great potato salad, cole slaw and Tom's homemade Mexican street corn.............my mouth is still watering. I was so sated that I did not have any desserts but I saw several mouth watering homemade pies created by Tom and Bob Clow. We spent the afternoon playing with Tom's personal collection of vacuums. During this time folks milled around the house, garage and front lawn talking about all sorts of things. I left around 8:30 PM for my hotel as I had to leave early to catch a flight out of St. Louis on Sunday morning. I left on a wonderful, "vacuum high", and a lot of new friends. I want to thank both Tom and Donnie for being just great. The amazing about Tom is that he let all of us play with ANY vacuum in the museum and some folks used some of them in the contest! I know how guarded we tend to be with our vacuums so this was a unique experience and a first for me. So thanks Tom! I look forward to being there next year and arrive earlier and leave later! PS--and Tom was correct: Adam Mercer was the "boy Friday", that helped run a convention in every way a person can help run a convention! |

I’ll bring my BNIB Viking 720 power team next year as it’s one of the few I’m keeping in my drastically downsized collection and I even have some goodies for you, a couple of others and even the free Pile!

So you thought putting a hypodermic needle and vaccine bottle on the logo t-shirt was a good idea?? Really!! Oh fun!
Side note: "go with the flow"?? heard mentality. I noticed not to many were worn. I certainly would not spend my money on it...just saying. I too am vaccinated, but don't feel the need to advertise. One last thing: If "the flow" walked off a cliff, would you follow? This post was last edited 09/22/2021 at 12:05 |

I don't follow you around and just comment. I thought it was the best comeback and I appreciated it.
The way he just rolled out a response that was epic and oly a man with his writing all could do. I've wrote many rude comments to Tom and got served everytime. I actually would consider him a friend and ask him questions. I have learned remarks to Tom a published author who is great at writing and myself who is the opposite end of the spectrum. You said smart comments and experied what I have multiple times. I don't follow you don't flatter yourself. It could be anybody and I would've said. I stalk no one but when your saying a fairly rude comment and get served I'm going to laugh. If he said that to me I'd laugh. It was funny I enjoyed the post it was hilarious. If better fir people to think your an idiot than to open your mouth and leave no doubt. |

You are a funny man. You know you will take anyone who wants to come.
I seen Thomas's video of your history with Dyson. I thought it was awesome and very informative. The fact the vacuum cleaner billionaire sir Dyson called you shows kind of who you are and how respected by him is amazing. Your our generations Stan Kann. The convention looks awesome. I hope to attend one sometime. Even if I'm not of the special 8 I'll have Thomas ask Adam to let me in. You know he's the nicest person and would say yes and you'd allow it. |

Looks like everyone had a great time, thank you for sharing the pictures for those who weren't able to be there! Hoping that just maybe I might be able to be there next year, all depends on how things go with my foot. It is getting better, but it has taken a long time to heal, and I haven't been able to drive in almost a year and a half. Sure looking forward to it, and Tom, I hope I'm on your short list too!

Les,
Being called an idiot by you I will ware like a badge of honor thank you. As far as my comment about the t-shirt we can agree to disagree, and my comment about the "We go with the flo" Times being what they are...well I should have kept my feelings to myself, I own that, this was not the place for it. Again I'm truly happy you all had a wonderful time, and I do apologize if I offended anyone. I do look forward to visiting the museum some day, even if I need to go in cognito LOL! If you all would rather me not attend one of the conventions that's fine as well, beside I don't look good in shorts, they make my butt look big. (: I hope you all have a great day, and a wonderful time next year, I would love to be a fly on the wall at that one.,,,indeed. Jim |

Alex, great video. Audio was great. It was awesome getting to meet you at the convention since I've watched your channel for a few years. It was interesting running that Drainvac central vacuum using the transformer you brought, I think we probably pushed that to the max since all of the lights were flickering in Tom's garage. Mike |

The impaired one.
If I were you Here's what I'd do. I'd put Idiot in quotations with les in the bottom right. Get it framed put it above your lamps. I'd put a lamp that you could see to admire the picture. Then sitting back you can say my life finally has a an actual achievement. It would be something to remember. I only have to say you made a lamp. Idiot- lamp Les-greatest accomplishment you'll ever have. I'd love to come to a convention it would be a blast. Let's see if I hurt your feel bads and this gets removed. Click on because you can dish it but when served somehow I get comments pulled. Moderator said poster can swear and slander me. He was starting in on Tom. If your going to moderate do it both ways. I do agree my deleted posts were much but its the only way he gets what I'm saying. |

I look forward to seeing you. You are DEFINITELY invited. I find you to be a wealth of knowledge. I'm really easy going and love to actually let people try out and use the machines in the collection. Third weekend of September each year.
