Actually a similar model was sold in the US in the early 1950s - this is a derivation of the Hoover Model 41 also known as the Hoover Holiday I believe.
This model was introduced around 1953 the replacement for the Hoover 402 (US Hoover Model 40). Originally well specified it was considerably de-featured in 1956 when the Constellation was introduced although there was not much difference in the price. I must say, I am inclined to disagree with Walter in that I think the Lux 64 was the better cleaner, it was a newer design though. This 417 would be from the early to mid 60s - it did have various colour changes up until it was replaced by the 427 in 1972. I have them all - I must do some pictures:) There is an earlier model 417 on eBay right now - its is advertised as a Goblin but it is just in a Goblin box.
