Just ordered a nice Eureka hand vac and after waiting over a week for it to arrive, I had the mailman on my porch today with a problem. It came to me postage due $56! The seller shipped it in a big Amazon box, first class, with a 2oz weight on it. I told the mailman to just send it back. Not sure what the seller will do next but hoping they correct the issue wither with a refund or re-ship.
Annoyingly I have been trying to get one of these forever but everyone wants $50 for them. One of these days I will nab one!

Did the seller state that in his/ her description? That shipping would be due to the post office on arrival? You can’t expect the seller to ship that for $14.30. Shipping is very expensive. As an eBay seller myself I try to give the lowest shipping price possible on my items.
Things are just going to keep going up thanks to inflation and bad current economics. I think buyers need to use a little discernment and think logically. I’ve seen bicycles on certain websites claiming to ship the entire bicycle from China for only $10. Turns out it was just a small bicycle light. There’s always a catch! As a side note. I don't even think eBay is worth it for the seller. Unless, it is something that will sell for a good price. The seller tried to scam the postal system shipping things with improper weight, thats what the mailman said. Too many people think eBay is some joke selling app like OfferUp or whatever they have now.

That sucks! USPS and FedEx catch the package weight and size as they go through the system. People that try to scam don't realize that. I guess. It didn't make sense to use a big box for that either. I recently got one of those from another collector along with the box and attachments. The box looks like it can fit in a drawer.
Those Eureka hand vacs are neat! I didn't think they were desirable because I don't hear much about them on here. | ||

No clue if it broke or not - postman is not allowed to surrender the parcel without payment first. The box looked okay. But yeah I posted this just as a precaution to others out there buying vacuums.
Also about the shipping charges - there are many sellers out there that make a ton of money and just want to see items get put to use, and they don't care about the postage. I got a vacuum from New York for $25 back in the winter and they shipped it totally free. Another time had a vac shipped that was $10 shipping charge and it must have cost $50 to ship - no problems. You just never know. | ||

who eBay used to own is a effing joke. I bought a avalir for $125 a year ago. The seller made a label and it said shipped. She closed her account and withdrew everything. I was in short SOL
Fast forward I bought a air fryer from sharkninja.com website. It was $53.00. The seller who wasn't sharkninja scheduled a pickup 5 days out. 4 days later it says delivered. I go to the post office and give them the tracking number. The seller basically found a tracking number to a neighbor who received a package. They used that tracking number showing it was delivered. PayPal basically said tough the seller shipped and has tracking. I said ya they were phishing and found a neighbors tracking number. I deleted all my PayPal and closed my account. I've bought and sold thousands of dollars through them. I get scammed and they basically say tough Shiz. I know they have programs with credit card companies for this. I worked for American express for 7 years. If there is a credit card they have this coverage on every card. It's a perk to use their card. PayPal can fly a kite I won't run my money through them at all. I'll run it through a company that has consideration for customers. Sorry for the rant. | ||

You did the right thing by sending it back, I would have done the same. Frustrating to say the least.
I've given up on eBay as both buyer and seller. If I need a small part or filter for something and the price/shipping is reasonable I will consider purchasing but lately (for me maybe the last 12-18 months) it's not worth it. I've sold alot over the years (23 years) but refuse to list vacuums, etc. anymore. I scour locally for clean vacs and parts on several search engines. If it's meant to be, I'll find it. | ||

It used to be that one could find very good deals on eBay but not anymore. Lately, I've consistently been able to find better prices on Amazon for new items--belts, bags, grill accessories, etc.--and usually with free next-day delivery to boot.
I was selling my dad's antique toys on eBay for a few years and making pretty decent money but between them and PayPal, the fees were taking too much out of it and I've basically run out of energy for that project. I'm almost to the point of calling in an auction company to sell all or most of it off in one fell swoop. Yeah, I'd make pennies on the dollar of what it's worth but it would be worth it if I could get out from under the storage unit rental. $175 a month adds up over time. | ||

I doubt the seller will offer that vacuum again at the same price. The seller has postage, return postage, and penalties to recoup.
I don't know why couriers don't validate postage before accepting parcels. They only need a set of handheld scales. Post Offices wouldn't allow it over the counter with insufficient postage paid. It's not just eBay fees, PayPal fees, and Postage. There's often Import Duties, Inspection Fees, Purchase/Value-Added Taxes. Its a shame the "Marketplace" feature on here is so weak and under-used. It could have been a real alternative to eBay. As you've been waiting so long for one of these; why wait for another 'bargain' to turn-up. Why not "bite the bullet" and pay the going rate for one now? You'll have the vacuum you've wanted for a long time, and can enjoy owning it for longer. | ||
